Today is sorting day again around here for me...I try once a week to take time to sit with the birds and watch them and catch up the ones I'm not sure about and decide how they are lookin, so that means I might get some more photos for you Lynette! And Anna...I'll see if I can get some pics of those other two cuckoo x blue F1 girls for you today. My favorite one is in a younger pen, but she's a nice size girl and has a gorgeous head and neck...not all skinny and strung out like they sometimes can look.

Here are pics of the Marans chicks I hatched. The eggs came from Poultry Hollow. I know the quality isn't the greatest, and I plan to get eggs from a BYCer next!!

This is the one I think is a Blue:

This one I think is a Black Copper:

And this one is a Wheaten... I can already see some mossiness in her feathers - At least I think she's a girl!

Any opinions welcome. Thanks again for being so patient with me while I get started on these!

Are the chicks pecking at the other birds' toes, or are they doing it to themselves? I had a single hatch roo, Pip, who had pretty shank/toe feathering coming in, and one morning I noticed he was pecking at his toes, and was bloody. I washed his feet off, and slathered on some Neosporin on his feet. After that he left them alone. He's kind of a weirdo as it is, and I am not sure if his case wasn't from a boredom type of thing, or if the feathers as they start coming in more were feeling itchy? I've never had another chick do this, so until it happens again, I can't be sure which scenario it was. Me thinks in Pip's case it was more of a boredom thing; he also beat the crap out of his teddy bear!

Try the Neosporin, it may help to soothe the itch of the incoming feathers. They are not crowded in the brooder, are they? That will make them peck each other too.

Don't quote me, but if you ordered all BCM chicks I think maybe that third one is a sport chick...maybe a sport wheaton. I don't raise the wheatons, but I think someone who has had sports will chime in and give more info.

cute chicks tho...I think the first is my fav....that does look like a nice dark blue
