Yes sorry for the short notice. I just received the email that they got the go ahead for the egg show.

No you do not have to be NPIP certified to send eggs to the show. In fact, last I heard, nobody is NPIP certified in Nevada. I will try to send you the form via email now.

I am a member there as well and I have everything come to me in email form, my inbox always has mail and I always have something to catch up on. The Yahoo site for me is not as easy to navigate, but having all the announcements come via email is totally user friendly for me.

x 2 on that "not as easy to navigate" statement!

COMBS are real large and HEADS are real SMALL.....

I agree with previous postings that these birds have a more GAME like body build. Marans are a dual purpose breed and should a body worthy of dinner LOL.

Look at the width of these birds. Look at the tail shape. See how the back just glides into the tail ( no sharp breaks) Plus look at the tail angle - around 45 degrees.
Look at the width of the neck and how it connects to the head AND fits their large combs.

These are some good examples of what body shape marans should have....

I found this picture from an Austrian web site

This is from Heaven Sent Ranch . . .

I hope this helps you see where your birds are lacking the expected marans shape.

Wahoo! Congrats Donna. Are they Blue Copper or Blue eggs?

They are from my original flock of BCM... just eating eggs right now.... 4 more left to start laying. When we get the electricity running out to the coop, anytime now, they should all start laying.

I have got to send you pics soon of my boys... Now that I have been shown how to process chickens I have one aggressive FBCM roo that I can't wait to cull!!! Hubby wants him for Thanksgiving dinner

I just need to figure out if I should cull the others too.
