Fabulous photos!!!! They are so sweet!

So what do you think you have genderwise with the Coppers? Any guesses?

Preliminary guesses: tallest, most upright one is a male, the shortest, female, and the one in the middle could go either way but I leaning toward female on that one as well.

You silly girl! There are many people with the same names, chickens too!

Mine got his name due to his shank feathering, He put me to mind of a Clydesdale horse when he was a youngster.

I'm pretty sure my bcm roos name is safe, eh Debbi?
wink.png
i get the weirdest looks when i tell people his name

Nope, seems to me I've seen that name before, in a different breed. Ok, we won't count the other breeds then!

Yeah, all blacks. Crazy huh?

Go figure!

I do have one Splash gal (Darryl), she does not show any copper, I was going to test her to that large Black Birchen male once she is done being a momma, but for sure getting the blues that way is the long way to the store and back.

I do have a few blue gals that do not show copper, but they are from copper parents. A couple of them are from Bill, I am hoping (very high hopes here) that the one I have in with the large Black Birchen male now might possibly throw a Silver Birchen as I had that one Splash Birchen boy come from Bill. It will be a little wait as neither gal that is in with the BB male are laying right now.

One of my new chicks, a blue cockerel, is going to get his name changed. It was "Jagger" as that song kept playing over and over on hatch day! His new name...I can't write here or I'll get spanked! He is going to be a little SNOT! At 5 weeks old, he lunges at the cage when he sees me, tries to peck when I give them food/water. When I pick him up he is fine. Put him down, and the fight is on again!

Believe me when I say, I can now spot the mean ones at an early age! Blue Butt was the same way...

there must be something in the water down your way....I've only ever had one mean BCM..I think his too was conditioning perhaps as he was in with some wyandottes....who were all in that stage of vying for position in the flock and so he turned his annoyance or whatever the heck it was at me
hu.gif
needless to say...he's not around anymore.

I would think that testing the girls from Bill would make sense when they start laying. Either way you go, if you work with what you have, you will have some heavy culling to do...I know all about that.
roll.png
it is kind of crazy tho....going through the process of culling, then all of a sudden, one day you realize you are heading in a really good direction. I love that feeling!

Hmm, I wonder if I will ever get that feeling??

As for the water, don't know. I raise all of my babies the same way. Pip is more of an exception due to him being the only chick to hatch in his clutch, and there was no one to put in with him. Both clutches on either side of him were 5 weeks different in age. I finally put him in with the younger clutch when they were old enough, and they wailed the tar out of him! Tried him with the older birds, same deal. A chicken without a country.
lol.png
I can't tell you how many times I had to rescue him, then he decides I'm the enemy?? Little ingrate! He has gotten better with me now that he's older, and the flux of hormones has calmed down. He is getting HUGE! So, Pip holds a soft spot in my heart. What an idiot I am!

haha...that's ok...I have a black ameraucana cockerel that is gorgeous, but for some reason all of a sudden has decided I need to be attacked..he always waits til my back is turned and is one of my freerangers...so needless to say...I feel like if someone were to watch me do chores and didn't know about him...would think I was crazy. I'll be walking and just randomly turn around really fast because I hear birds running up behind me....I think he got too spoiled with treats and thinks that if I'm not going to give them to him everytime I see him then hes going to try to beat them out of me haha. I would get rid of him, but he really is a nice lookin bird. I wanna use him for olive eggers...so I'll at least have to put up with him through breeding season next spring
