Old souls perhaps?? Long line of farmers?? Although mine are so far back, it's a wonder I got that trait, when no one else in my family ever did?

I do come from families with strong farming histories....Its what I want to do with my life, in a way relevant to today, but while honoring and respecting those that farmed before us all. I've been told I'm an old soul since I was really young. I'm just grateful I see things differently than most my age and am not hung up on crap that don't matter

It's so funny. when my friend and I talk of our childhoods, we both wish we had had the other's. She was raised in the woods, waaaaay back in the woods. No electricity or running water, outhouse, and on a farm with a Dad that was a logger. I would've loved that life! Me, I was raised in the suburbs of CT. Dad was a bank teller in the early days, then went on to become a VP. Mom cooked from nothing but cans.

Would never eat a fresh egg or chicken, only garden we ever raised was when I dug one in the backyard, and paid heck for that one!

Different lifestyles, but yet today, we seem to have changed places. All of her family wanted to know how we ever became friends when we were so different, yet we've been the best of buds for about 20 years now. She laughs at me when she calls and hears the roos crowing, and I can tell her who it was by name. She said, "I never knew chickens had names"??

I raise cuckoos and by far they are the largest variety out of all the Marans colors I raise. The boys and girls are consistently beefy. If you have some more pics of the young ones you have I'm sure we'd all love to see them and if you were wanting some feed back on how they are looking side profile and front shots usually help to give a more accurate pic of them.

also...the boy on the left...do you think you can get a close up of his comb? I'm not sure, but its looking like he possibly has a sprig or carnation comb.

Ksane..where did you get your cuckoos? They are nice looking.

Hi Vicki!! I had a crazy week. How you all doing? Are your cuckoos larger than the wheaten marans? My wheaten Marans roos are just huge, one is big as our big black orpington but not as fluffy lol. My golden cuckoo roos are a nice size but not as large as the wheatens.
Btw...I love your goat pic! What kind of goats do you have again? I really want a few milk goats !!

Lenette!! Been wondering where you've been!
I agree Ksane's birds are nice looking, that's why I mentioned more photos...just that one boys comb so far is all I've seen to watch for.
My cuckoos are just massive...although I have 4 huge Marans boys of different colors and they are all huge, but I've culled out everything smaller, so the size is improving on all front, just the birchens have to catch up the most. I haven't seen any wheatens in person, so I don't know how they compare to be honest. I'm sure had I seen some in person, I probably would have brought them home with me

haha
My goaties are pygmies. Not the oversized drawn out mixed ones, but the stout and small ones. I just love them and can't wait for babies in the spring. Did you see the birchen pic I posted the other day?

Why don't you save them up to like 7 or 8 days, then put them in the bator all at once?? Just put them in a carton, pointy end down, and lean the carton back and forth, at least 3 times a day. Otherwise, you are going to be staaaaagering those hatches!

Hmmmmm......I like to cook Turkeys, Hams, Whole Salmon....big meals. I like to make a crock pot full of White Beans & Ham Hocks, or Venison Stew, or Chili.....something that fills the house with the warmth & aroma. I like to "create an atmosphere"...
For snacks I make popcorn, or chocolate-dipped strawberries to be (carefully) eaten on one of the bearskin rugs in front of the fireplace....but then I'm a good-for nothing man, if you listen to the other hens on here.
Oh, and I specialize in omelettes with all the fixin's.

haha....its not that I think men are good for nothing, I'm just content with where I am in my life right now. Nothing against anyone at all... sorry if the teasings too much. I've been told I have a black belt in sarcasm before...

You've met your match with me when it comes to sarcasm, girl! That's one venue where I won't be bested!

Me either, I love men and prefer their company, most times, to women's! If I go to a party, I hang with the men. The women are all talking about hairdos and nail salons, but the men are talking about their new truck, chain saw, or the latest buck they bagged! Much more interesting with the guys! The women hate me..

Going to search for the birchen photos

Hey Debbie I saw where you got a silkie egg!! Congratulations, your babies have grown up! Seems like you just hatched them lol. I am soooo jonesing for hatching out chicks! I just don't wanna keep them inside while they are little I know I'm gonna end up caving though lol. I have a hard time telling which of my silkies are laying too. I know one partridge girl I call Shasta lays all the time. I don't ever think its the same girls laying at the same time I think they take turns, they are horrible layers (quantity wise).
