They continue to grow, very much like our fingernails.

Oh, I know about the spurs... These are some killers! It might be easier to twist them off, and make some earrings out of them.
They really are something to see. I usually just trim them down, but these things are like talons.
 
I can see a few birds here that may need spur removal in the near future. When you use the pliers, do you twist it from the base of the spur (closest to the leg)?? Does it then leave a living tissued point behind, like if a dog loses a toenail??
