Picture a comb made out of playdough..... If you push on the playdough with your thumb... it would push out on one side of the comb and in at the corresponding other side of the comb.
That is the idea behind a thumbprint. ... I think the terms would be more like concave and convex (sorry, just the math nerd in me

Ear tufts should be the same color as the hackles.

Is that the case with most breeds or just with the BCM ? ? ?

hmmmmm....good question. Let me think about that.....I don't know about all breeds because I only focus on 3, so I pass on answering that one and say that I know for sure that the ear coverts in the BCM, Welsummer and the Barnevelder should match the hackles. Did that help?

Trying to load the photo of Lil' Bill's comb so that you can tell me if it is thumbprint....and now that I read your last description to Cad that is not thumbprint on Bill, it does not go through to the other side.

Pink you have done a wonderful job of making this project a success.
Thank you for sharing all these pics. It is a testamony to all the hard work you have done.

Some folks believe that good birds just happen. All these pics have really help me feel better about all the culling I have done this year.
Before this project started, I only saw your WINNERS. You made it look EASY to have Good looking marans.

If folks pay attention to all these pics, they will recognize that you have done AND am still doing a LOT of work to create the BEST possible marans.

Thanks again for doing all that you have!

Where are the folks that have been doing this stuff since they were knee high to a grasshopper ? ?

This may not be the right place to do this, but Were not loking to sell. We have a few roos that come from a very good breeder in Texas. We are willing to let one go if someone can use him. We live in N.E. Ohio and arn't going to set a price. If you can return the favor later, great. If you are just starting out, this would be a great start(IMO). nyway , if you think you may be interested, let us know. Pics and details will be sent to you.

NOW let me tell ya'll what I have done....

THERE are TWO marans SOP threads.

I started one over a year ago. It is called Marans - proposed SOP REFERENCE PURPOSES
The link to it is...
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=385769&p=1

On this thread, I have set up three catergories of pics...
1. Head faults and DQs
2. Back and Tail Faults and DQs
3. Toe, feet, and other body part Faults and DQs

I've tried to label everything as to what it is. The thread is very short and concise because there is no chatting on it. The information is very easy to find.

The second SOP thread was started eralier this year by Wynette. That thread was set up with the intention of discussing the SOP.
It is called Marans - SOP Discussion Thread.
The link to it is .. . .
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=517113

On this thread, Wynette will be moving the pics around and organizing them when we get done. I have moved the same pics from my SOP thread to this SOP thread.
The difference between the two threads is that you can post questions and discuss the SOP on this (Wynette's SOP Discussion) thread.

I hereby invite everyone over to my thread to check out what the collection of photos is looking like thus far
