Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

so far I've lined up about 8 girls for Gigantor...some blacks, blues and splashes! i also have another smaller BCM cock from another breeder that produces stellar pullets. So, I plan to also individually mate him to his current mate and his one daughter from last year and see how it goes. I am hoping for a good pic day tomorrow. I looked up the weather and its not supposed to be as windy, so maybe more of them will come outside.

No Problem, I will get busy tomorrow morning with the arrows.
At the same time, I can find that other photo that I saved with the arrows on the comb.

Just getting a chance to log in tonight

It has been a BUSY day and yet, I feel like I got nothing done.

I tried to weigh Cracker and her sister today. The hid under the coop and I couldn't get them LOL
Those two were the only two out of 38 birds that I wasn't able to weigh today. BAD GIRLS!
I spent the day weighing and tagging potential breeders for my Spring hatch.

At the end of the day, I have NOTHING to show for my work except a sheet fulle of notes!

I bet that sheet full of notes will be extra valuable coming into this next year's breeding season tho!

I use rabbit pellets in my garden as a fertilizer.

How do you feed the pellets to the chickens? Do you get them wet or do anything special? How much do you give them?

I've never used the pellets, we've just used baled alfalfa when we can get it and sometimes the slightest bit of calf manna will help as well...but I mean slight. It also works amazingly well for getting them in glossy good feathering for showing too.

What the flock???? What kind of hackle coloring is that?? Seems he wants to show something other than Blue Copper. Splash maybe? Birchen maybe?? Does he have a funky comb??
