I saw the ones that look like an extension cord. I just don't think that is what I need in an incubator. I want the heat to be controlled by the temps. On cold nights in the shop my temps in the incubator drop and I would like them to be consistent. looked at the link.... I will have research more... does it have a probe? It does!!!!!

That is what I need

I am trying to get DH to help me move this catastrophy into the basement tomorrow AM.
Looked quick, all are missing pieces. Give me a few minutes....
It's the 3122 I was thinking of, see http://www.randallburkey.com/Incubator-Replacement-Parts/products/29/
They
have free shipping til New Years day. All of mine are missing the adjustment screw, and I don't see it listed as a replacement.
Let me look better tomorrow when I can see.

Yep - you can get it at the pet store or Amazon usually has great prices and quick shipping!
Just make sure you get the 500 (thermostat) and not the rheostat (that one needs the room to be a constant temp.)

You still need the cord part (it is just a plain lamp cord, but you need these little clips to access the metal inside the tape) to clip onto the ends of the heat tape.

The plugs then plug into the thermostat - If I remember, it can run 2 plugs (2 strands of heat tape!)

Here are a bunch of options:

Thanks! I'm glad to hear I'm not "barn blind!"
Love those chunky blue girls!
Wish I had several more!!

Now on the (perpetual) search for a great roo!
(even better and more elusive - the one with NO copies of the defective coronation comb gene!!)

I ordered the clips and I will just get some cheap extension cords and cut the end off. It was just the thermostat that was throwing me. Until now...

I don't plan on using more than one strip so I should be fine. I think I will use a dimmer switch on the brooders. Someone suggested it as a warmer in a brooder. So I want to make a little cubbie for the chicks to go in and out of for heat. Maybe it will train them to go into coops too

Now I am really excited!

I have an old (industrial?) brooder that my uncle found at an estate auction!!
It is 4x4' metal pyramid with the last 6" near the ground covered with canvas curtains rather than metal all the way to the ground.

It runs on a wafer thermostat and I've been able to set it anywhere from 95 for brand new babies down to 50 for my big grow out trailer (older chicks).

It is AWESOME!!!
Wish I had more (and Another trailer to run them in!!)

The whole idea of letting them run UNDER when cold is exactly what the babies are programmed for in nature!
And then you're not heating the entire enclosure-just when and where they need it!!

If you're building something, I'd highly recommend building the heat OVER a little cuddle area!!

Forgot:
Go to lowes or home depot for the cords.
You can buy by he length of cord and add a plug for pennies rather than buying (and taking apart) a ready made one!!!
