Sounds great to me - that's what I'm wanting to do.
Reduce numbers and just keep the breeding worthy ones!

Wouldn't hurt to have a laying flock of really pretty (reject) BLRW and Marans!

Day 21 here with the 4 Silkie eggs, and I've got one pipping! Hope at least one more hatches!!

The way i figure it, is there is no reason to hold onto the chicks unless one or two is faaaabulous...but from what I've seen they are alright, but the real shot in your arm for the breeding program will be the new stock. So, once you have the new stock and they are growing out and etc, you will be able to see what you will still need...which means that if you need say, more girls, you will still have the original 4 to hatch from if necessary but not have the expense in growing out these chicks before you can see what you are getting from Sue.

this is kind of funny and scary, but last night I had a dream about the future hatching here now that I will have my sportsman for incubating and another sportsman for hatching. I went to the hatching room and could hear cheeping of babies...and had just put eggs in a couple of days before, so was confused and decided I would open the incubator...and it was full of babies...and they were popping out of the eggs just like popcorn. And so was the hatcher and I hadn't even put any eggs in there! Talk about overload!

These goofy roos!

Roy came out of the coop this morning looking well rested and confident. He even went out into the yard with no problems from the others. So, Mr. Pip who spent the night outside is now the one being chased by the other roos! What little pea brains they must have, to forget your buddy overnight??

May just knock Pip's cocky attitude down a peg or two...
