Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Ok, we're back

Babys are cute and sweet

Here's some pictures of my roosters, need to get some more, but haven't had a lot of pretty days lately
big_smile.png
"Frank" seems bigger and I think he has a longer back, although I don't like the abruptness of the tail/back joint as well as my other one I'm keeping, "George" I think his back seems shorter and his comb is only 4 points I think, and he isn't quite as broad as Frank, but I like his tail/back smoothness of how it joins together feather wise better, and his tail set is lower. However, it is VERY DIFFICULT to tell them apart at a glance, lol! Also I have another one I need to get rid of that is practically frank's twin with a better tail/back joining, and doesn't have those weird wrinkley thumbprint things that both george and frank have on their combs, but he has a great big side sprig, (and a white wing feather) sigh...

I'd love to hear comments and see what people think of them! Need hen pix, lol!

Ok, I *think* this is Frank, either that or sprigs his twin

And the only good shot of George I got minus the hen chase one I posted a couple days ago, lol

Ok, Chickie pictures
big_smile.png
There was one rooster that is already a month old who was broody raised, he threw in with the 9 chicks. All the chicks have nice shank feathering, and are just cute, what can you say, lol

It was so cute, first couple of pics they'd been in a small box for an hour for the ride home and a quick run in the store, so they were just starting to get their "legs" back, lol. Then when I checked back a few minutes later after feeding my wellies, cochins, and buff orps, there they all were, with the rooster, his wings practically straight out to the sides, chicks snuggled in under him. IT WAS SO STINKIN' CUTE!!! And here I almost threw him in with the older wellie babies, lol!!! Needless to say I decided to leave him in to handle mothering duties

Did you see the pics of the blue boys I posted this afternoon?
I'll let you have one, the one with more points in his comb.
Let me know before Thursday night, my car is going to be stuffed.
I haven't been to this one, so I don't know the vendors.
Peter Brown, First State Vet Supply, will be there.
All the meds that you need in the middle of the night.... pick them up now.
By the time you figure out what you need, and pay air shipping because you need it immediately....
Just get it this weekend, early, because everyone else does the same.
Now that I just typed this in, I can't find him in the vendor list...
Will have to double check....
Chinese raffle. Sometimes there are some pretty big nest boxes in there....
CAMERA!!

I probably can, I need to figure out which of the unmarked hens is a cottage hill laying the super dark egg, and which other three are the davis/jeane birds that lay so light I won't breed and then go from there. One of the jeane /davis birds is over melanized and solid black, the rest of the birds I can't tell apart, lol! (maybe a good problem I guess)

Thanks, Roberta!!!
The people on this thread are so generous!

Which boy? 28594, 28598, or 28590? (I think those are all you posted, not including your replacement boy, right?)

I'm going to do my best to be there, trying to convince SO to go with me, so I don't have to drive and stay alone, but we'll see!!
Def need to bring a cage now!

Vicki - you're totally right!
I don't mind at all paring down to the very best! (or the best of each strain!)

thanks again all!!

oh NO!

I knew my computer was on it's way out, but my screen has suddenly developed all sorts of flashing lines all over it - making it fairly unreadable - WAH!

if I disappear, that's where I'm gone....
