Remember this photo? This young gal is 7 months old and has not started laying
hmm.png
, anyway, this photo was taken last month .....I was looking closely at her the night before last, actually I was scolding her for being lazy in the egg laying dept. and noticed that that outer ring in her eye in this photo that is dark is now....orangey rich dark pumpkin color. I wonder if this has changed because she has possibly just matured and maybe she is about to start laying. Her comb has also changed over the last month as well. It is now a nice deep red and about 1/4" taller and thicker all around. I will see if I can a get a photo of her too, but she is not one of my lovey-est chickens. She knows I tolerate this behavior because I think she is beautiful and I think she uses it to her advantage to keep to her standoffish ways. She is in with Bill Sr. right now, would love to get a blue pullet from her and Bill, the body type would be SPECTACULAR!!!!!! Not to mention that she has nicely feathered legs and out toe. Hoping when she finally does decide to lay, that her egg color is nice.

okay.....maybe it will let me add the photo this time......

hmmm still no pic. I click on the link and it tells me I am not authorized or something.
Ok could you guys check my site again and tell me if the pics are working? I re-uploaded the whole thing. It is so weird cuz I could see the pics on my computer and on my iphone. But I did upload "changes" a few times and not the whole site again so maybe that helped.

I think what the problem might be is that your album from the old BYC is private for your eyes only. Can you try to upload it from your computer? Click the "insert image" icon it is in the 3rd set from the right in the editor, fist icon. From there you can browse your computer or you can click on the URL tab and add the link to the image there that may work... I have not done that one yet so I don't know. I do know it will them be moved to the NEW default folder.

This is the comb I don't like.

This is my backup boy.

Debbi~ You had made a comment a few weeks back about the eyes of my blue copper boy. Better picture now.

Is my imagination or is it more difficult post multiple pictures now?

I got a new toy today! I finally found and bought a used wine cooler. It is 30 bottle and has a smoked glass door. It is almost 3ft tall and wide enough to get my 2 LG egg turners into and still have plenty of room at the bottom for use as a hatcher. It could fit another egg turner as well. Too bad it works perfectly as a wine cooler haha cuz I'm gonna have fun gutting it out

i'm so relieved to have the rest of the weekend free! Its not super warm, but good enough weather to mess about with my birds and get them ready for breeding season with rebanding and setting up pens and paperwork. I'm just a few eggs away from a full egg tray...so the incubator will get set up asap as well. Probably tonight when its dark out...since I will have plenty of time then. And I'm still thinkin on the auto waterer and bulk feeder solutions for the new pens I'm plannin. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for building a bulk feeder (that holds at least 20 pounds at a pop if not more...that is gravity fed and has a lid cover over where the feed comes out that can be closed tight at night to keep pests out of it?

why don't you like that first boy's comb again? is he the one that was that really nice copper? if so, I wouldn't hesitate to hold him if he is the that one I asked you about last night.

No eye appeal to me and it's not very thick. I'm thinking it'll get worse as it is not hanging off the back of his head like the others. I have several with better, thicker combs. I initially thought he had seven points, but I guess I got him mixed up with another one.

So now I'm second guessing myself yet again, which is good because I'm learning.

May need to shoot new pics again of all because they seem to look different when you study them from a picture. Good thing my friend didn't show today.

Yeah...pics would be good! The standard ones for each boy like the front, side, from the top and a close up of the comb and post them and I bet people would chime in for you. I don't mind his comb...IF he has better color than the others. For me it is about balance and from what I could see in some of the other birds, this one seemed to have the nicest shade of copper. I think his comb might just be slower developing than some of the others, but his comb does stand off the neck like it should. Its totally up to you, I just was curious about him since he did catch my attention out of the pics you posted. I do think it is good your friend didn't show! Thats the crazy thing about birds at this age...they can change so drastically from one week to the next, its crazy!
