My Marans are finally laying pretty regular

I got 2 from Pinkchick's Boy's Pen today.... He needs a name...... suggestions?????? "Blue Boy" maybe... you know Pinky and Blue Boy paintings?????

I think I have 8 saved.... they have till I set Pinkchick's eggs.

I am also saving the Olive Eggers Eggs 4 I think so far.... but I get usually 2 a day from them. This is a test with mine too to see what he throws with my girls.

I need to go to TSC and get some PINK vet wrap for her chicks.....

Hulk? My 5 yr old boy wants to name all the chicks Hulk. If it were up to my 3 yr old daughter all the chicks would be named Princess. Yup Hulk and Princess. Lol kids are do funny.

Hey Christie, she may be onto something there!! All boys are Hulks, all girls are Princess...Calling time would be cut down to nothing!! I'm sure my neighbors are laughing their fannies off when they hear me call up all my birds by name!

I start out by, "C'mooooon everychicken!!!" Then it gets personal..Bad Charlotte, dangit Olivia, Pip you ^%$#, and so on!

Question which Maran lays the darkest eggs?? I have Black Copper Marans, 3 and they lay a nice dark egg but do the coca Marans lay darker eggs??

Just want some pretty dark eggs!!!

Yup, my bestest friend says she never knew you named chickens?? Chickens to them = dinner and eggs...period. The funnier thing now is, she can hear the roos crowing in the background when we are talking on the phone, and she'll ask me, "is that Pip I hear??"

I had told her I can tell the voice of every roo on the place, and now she is learning the voices via the phone!!! Too funny! Oh ya, the neighbors have laughed before.."do they reaaalllyy know their names??" Oh yes, yes they do! I can call them up in the middle of the day by name, and that individual will come arunnin'!

Question which Maran lays the darkest eggs?? I have Black Copper Marans, 3 and they lay a nice dark egg but do the coca Marans lay darker eggs??

Just want some pretty dark eggs!!!

Do you mean "Cuckoo" Marans?? Typically, the Black Coppers lay the darkest eggs, but any more, breeders are really paying attention to improving egg color, so depending on whose birds you get, the Cuckoos may be darker than someone else's Black Coppers. Go to a reputable breeder who breeds for the darker eggs!

Woke up at about 4am this morning to what sounded like a canon going off! The storms had hit with some mega winds, like all at once! At 4am, it was 62*, tornado warnings out, lots of rain and lightening! Blew through with probably 50-60mph winds, and was gone in about 10 minutes. Then, the temps dropped like 30* in a couple of hours, and the winds remained! Brrrrrr!!! I can stand the cold with no problem, but these winds these days are just too much! Supposed to get back up into the 60s by Sunday! It was 72* here yesterday afternoon! The poor chooks don't know which way to go, and in the mornings, everyone is absolutely crazed!!!

Yikes! It sounds like you had some crazy weather the other night! Hopefully things will indeed warm up for you down your way. yesterday was mid 20s, but think today mid 40s and then back to 20s again. Suppose its better than piles of snow, eh?
