3 more pips (Sorry Donna told you 4, but I was seeing wrong) and 2 that haven't done anything yet. Hoping for more babies when we get home today. Then maybe I can get some baby photos up. :)

Go babies! I need some of those splashes too.....

I have one splash roo that I am going to cull pretty soon. I need the pen and he is not suitable for Marans breeding so he is my Olive Egger for now, but his days are numbered.

Yay! Sounds like they are trucking right along! I can't wait for pics.

The wife and I decide to go to the Ft. Worth Stock Show yesterday and I was a little disappointed with the numbers and quality of the Marans that were there. Black Copper and Blue Copper males were not impressive at all. There were a couple of nice girls of both breeds there, however. A few Cuckoos represented and some Whites that I really liked.

One good thing came from it, though. The wife had only seen Silkies in pictures and did not like them. Once she saw them in person her tuned changed. They may be my next project.:D

Gotta ask this question, but on some of the males cards the sex was listed as "K". Is that for a capon?

I would guess Cockerel. Sometimes at shows I've seen them use a K since both cock and cockerel have the same letter. Some shows will also use the abbreviation ckrl instead. Hope that helps

"K" stands for cockerel or young male around here.

I had someone give me a Silkie egg in October. That baby is 9 weeks old today. I'm picking up more Silkie eggs on Saturday!!!!

Thanks! Yeah, there was a "C" and knew that was for cock. The "K" I didn't understand. It'll be a while before I get any Silkies because I don't have the space at the moment. Just picked up a Barred Rock rooster up this morning for the layers, tho. He's no prize winner, but okay for the layer flock.

5 little babies!!!! 2 still have done nothing....I'm not sure they will but I have been surprised before.
1 of the 5 has a slight crooked toe but I think she will overcome and it will straighten out. Photos later after I finish a little work outside. They are SooooooOOOOOOOOOO STINKIN' CUTE!!!!!
All have feathered legs and toes.

I'm now actively working my Blue Copper Marans line and have what I still consider to be a "Project Pen". It has a Blue Copper male and female I got from Whitmore farms a couple of years ago but both were clean legged and the female had very little copper in her. I had used them to breed to some of my Black Copper Marans last year and got a few nice blue copper babies including another male and a few girls. They are also in this Project Pen along with a couple of my Black Copper hens that had too much red because I'm trying to get more copper in the birds than they initially had. I thought I had read that if you breed the blues and the blacks (Marans) you get either a true blue or a true black. I don't remember seeing anything about getting splash like you would when you breed other blues and blacks. Anyway, the first three chicks of this season have hatched and they look splash to me. A very light blue color. The tint washed out in the photo but you can see what they look like. I think they are too cute. They all have feathered legs just like the ones I hatched last year so I'm guessing that's also dominate. My question is - do you also get splash when you breed the blues and blacks together? I didn't get any last year but I was using black roos and this year I'm using only blue roos. Like I said, it's still in the "project" stage but they are laying like crazy and I'm hoping to end up with a nice line of Blue Copper Marans.
