I'm glad you were able to get your little girl feeling better again. Anytime you see them standing like a vulture and not eating and they are still juvies there's a good bet its cocci. I hate cocci. We went through some nasty resistant cocci here last summer. The good thing is, once you deal with it, you will be able to spot it a mile away the next time. I would give your girl some time before trying to deworm or anything. Wormer is hard on chickens especially sick ones. She is probably just eating to make up for starving lol.

but my guess is you little chick has not been outside so I would be doubtful that she could even have worms. Good luck with her.

Ok so I looked at all the eggs in the incubator. Your eggs... 3 marked Splash look clear

but I left them in the bator. I found 2 more with cracks. Did you fall on these too?

The box was smushed on one corner so they must have taken a good hit. One of the cracked eggs was leaking and was clear so I tossed it. The other was a small crack and looked like it was still growing so I left it. I did not see veins just a large dark mass and some really wired air sacks.... one looked like it had 2.

I love your sorting trays. Good idea. I found some really cool boxes at Sams Club in the meat case that look exactly like nest boxes. It has 3 'nest boxes' in each case. They are really neat so I got two empty ones lol!. I set them out for my new layers (white orps and wyandottes) and they have been using them.

OMG speaking of nest boxes you won't belive this: We had a project a while back constructing one of those large cat house/tree type things that you build from wood and cover with carpet etc. This one has two towers with 3 rooms on one tower side then a large tube connecting them and a tower on the other side with a pagoda house on top. Sooo we never did get the carpet on it haha and it kinda got put on the back burner with all the coop building and other stuff going on. It is in the covered carport attatched to one of the outbuildings kinda forgotten about. Well, the other day I was out there and heard cluck cluck cluck coming from that cat house. I looked over there and there were marans roosters in each of the 3 rooms on the one side and the black birchen marans hen in the pagoda house!! She looked very happy in there and had a bunch of eggs she was hiding lol. Crazy birds!

Haha...that's awesome! I love that story of the roosters in the rooms and the birchen girl in the pagoda! Way too funny!

I can join you. I just set 17 eggs today. NOT Marans. I set 9 lav/lav split Ams, 2 Leghorns (they are not laying well) and 6 EE. I have Marans going into lockdown on monday and I am praying I can fix my hatcher by then.

yay! The more the merrier! I can't wait for Kim to post pics by the way!! I want to see those cute little fuzzies! I cannot wait until I see what hatches! I will have my first hatch in the hatcher and it has a clear door so I can watch the babers hatch! I Am dying to know what is cooking in those eggs!!! I suppose I should be tho, since some of them are Gigantor and Big Boy's first babies!

Haha....too funny!! We do have poultry shows you could come to at the same time to make it worth while too! haha

I honestly don't know what to expect out of any of these eggs and I think that is some of what makes it so stinking exciting! I have a pretty good idea of whose egg is whose just because I know where the girls usually lay and what color egg and shape they lay, but I don't know which boy might be the pops....I'm hoping some of them will be keepers!
