Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Yeh, you know I would've felt like an idiot shooting my wheelbarrow! We do have Black Bears here, although I haven't seen one for quite a few years now. I don't like bears at all! Glad he is a nice Cuckoo boy. For some reason, the Cuckoos don't appeal to me. I kind of find that strange, since my long time favorite chooks were Barred Rocks?

Guess my tastes have changed over the years. Get rid of that headache and feel better!!

When you get time can you put up a pic of your Blue Cuckoos? I saw some at the show that someone had bought and they looked black to me. She said they were blue, but I didn't see it. They did not look like any of my Blues.

you mean my grown up girls? I have 2 that I held back from last year and they look pretty much exactly like your girls! So you are on the right track. Its looking like I'll have 3 or 4 more out of this hatch as well...so truckin forward! Literally at this point, gotta go to work!

Mornin everyone! Still have a lovely headache that's making it hard to sleep, but works out alright for checkin on chicks in the hatcher through the night. I'm up to 33 chicks now out of 40!!! So I have 7 left that I'll leave them and see how they do....I am surprised every time another hatches!

Congratulations on the fabulous hatch, Gilavina!!!

Hey, that's right! It's your hatch day!! What did you get so far??

Barb, wish you were closer. I am collecting Silkie eggs now for sale. The last batch I hatched all came out looking Partridge, but with all the colors mixed right now, it's anyone's guess what they will be when they feather out! The oldest of this clutch is definately a Partridge, and I would bet anything, that Kramer is the daddy! He looks just like him!

haha...should still be interesting to see what those chicks end up like, I'd think.

Its lookin like I'm on the right track to have more blues than anything else...my favorite kind of hatch!

LOve the pics of your babies Vicki Very cute!!

Here are my suprise chicks that the broody Key West Hen hatched out in the woods. None of these look like KW chicks which typically hatch out chipmunky colored lol. Some look very Maran-ish with feathered shanks etc. I found the 'nest' with 9 hatched out dark Marans brown, Orp brown, and Olive eggs no white key west eggs at all. She has 9 chicks still.
Too bad they all have to be considered mutts darn kw broodies! They are only supposed to hatch the eggs I GIVE them LOL!

Here she is on the loose in the woods before we caught her and all those chicks.
