Well how about I prepay and place my order now, under your current prices, then you can deliver next spring whenever it's convenient for you.

Everytime I see the picture of your Marans on the "Farm Store" page of your website, I just start drooling.

Those birds look fantastic!

Thanks - they are nice looking, especially the hens with those large copper collars going all the way around the neck (per proposed APA standards). But, you know, the people that call from the website tell me they don't give a flip what the bird looks like - they just want the eggs. I know it's hard to believe, but there are people outside of BYC who just want BCMs for the dark pretty eggs - just a few years ago, I was one of them.

That's what hooked me on the BC's...I started out with a different color and the darker the egg I got the more excited I got...then I had to have the best that money could buy... the darkest of the darkies.... Love em.. (I may even cuddle one tonight)

Hey Ruth you going to Newnan... (you are going to be a showhound!!!) Awesome!!!! Take lots of pix.

Check all the Marans Clubs - between them, they probably have a table at just about every show.

And, you know, if there had been a lot of competition, I probably wouldn't have won. The eggs are too light this time of year and I started to not even send them. I think most people who normally send in eggs didn't send any. All in all, it was fun to win. I've never entered any contest in my entire 51 years on this earth. And I swore I would never get caught up in the APA standards and showing but look where that got me.........

Ya Ruth but can you mail in to just any of them??? I really think I may have stood a chance with a few this year.... I had some good shape and color at the same time... (that doesn't always happen like it does for Drom). I was supposed to mail in eggs to compete with ya but my daughter thing... that is too bad...After meeting ppl on here it makes the competing thing sound like fun... I would worry to much about strangers and such but when you find your BYC buds are up against ya....It has a warm fuzzy feeling doesn't it?

If you're a member of the club I would think someone would allow you to mail the eggs to them and they would take them to the show. That's what they did for the Wisconsin one. I'm brand spanking new to all of this - learning as I go. Thought I would test the waters by first sending eggs and see how they did. If nothing else, it got my farm name "out there" and got a bunch of orders. Though it wasn't a very big egg competition - it was a huge international poultry show with over 2,000 birds and lots of people, all of whom stopped by the Marans table and saw the eggs - many of them may have never seen or heard of Marans before so it was also good for promoting the breed.

Ya good idea... I have a friend going to the Newnan show... I will see if she will take my eggies for me... I always have to have them fresh for cracking for competitions around here.... I wonder if it is the same in other places... Mail in won't be the freshest I wouldn't think.... Though the ones I had wrapped for shipping were 4 days old.

glad you aren't trying to buy the Hedemoras, $399 for a pair! I'm looking at their site.

is that a bird???? (ignorance is bliss)... sounds like some kind of reptile.

I don't really need a name out there as I am not a seller of eggs but it would be just nice to know...I would race out to Wonka and tell the ladies how fine they are!!! (though a ribbon win won't make them any less special or our morning coffee together more special).. They get cranberries or bananas or yogurt.. I get the coffee... I sit on my steps and enjoy watching them in the grass... It has been Hawk weather here... (blue sky...no clouds...light wind).. so I have to sit and watch them outside of Wonka (my coop)

I'm still one of those people, mostly. I'd love to be able to walk out to my coop and collect some of those dark, dark eggs.
I don't plan on breeding BC, so I'd only keep the hens.
I honestly don't have any intention of showing either, but it's nice to know I'll be getting my money's worth, something true to the SOP and high quality.

It really is all about the eggs though for me. They're so cool!
