Hi!
Yeppers looks like a Marans pullet. Oh and I saw your Barnie boys over on the Barnie thread and yes they look like they are all boys. :)

I just checked my hen again for feathering and she does have it down both outsides of her legsabout 1.5" long apprx. will it get fuller, should it be really full by now? She is 16 weeks apprx

OT:

Re the Piedmontese, they have excellent temperaments, I trained out a bull calf into a short yearling as an ox and he handled beautifully, not from a breeder, the folks bought him to be an ox, so I got him after they had him a month, he was a beautiful steer and very nice to handle and work with, they moved to somewhere in Ga last I knew, a pity there arnt more of them in the US. Cows milk well and raise big calves and the bulls are nice to be around. With all that and lean what more would anyone want. Pity more A.I. services dont carry them.

My SOTB and I kind of like Scotties , they suit the climate well for up here in Northern MI. We'll see.

This is a great thread, I am learning a lot about the Marans, and looking forward to ours, the feathered legs have got to help for a colder climate I think, we'll find out for sure.

Well I put more eggs in lockdown yesterday. I had to add a fan... I think the eggs on the bottom were not warm enough. I made a false wall and have the fan blowing up and not over the eggs. Temp was 99 on the bottom and top. I hope they hatch as well as the last batch without shrink wrapping

Got to go meet the guy to grade around the breeding pens. Can't wait to get them dryer.

Jake - I totally agree - why not have the Piedmontesse - they're so easy.

My SO keeps talking about the Scotties, but hasn't gotten any yet - a guy down the way is selling his herd, so - you never know!

Has anyone ever figured out how many lumens you need to candle the really dark eggs???

I thought I was OK with 104, but my young girls are laying dark (yay!) and I can't see inside@

Jake,

Have you looked at the Semenzoo ( http://lg.anaborapi.it/testi/bbf.dll?0000 ) site? Italian sires and you can order through Accelerated Genetics ( http://www.accelgen.com/ ). If you're looking for different genetics there's an online auction coming up April 4th. http://www.addisliveonlineauctions.com/

Yes - I just got that e-mail, too!

Our friend has 2 bulls that we're using right now, but need to make plans for the next generation
