Too bad about the feathering. But wondering what I should be looking for in terms of coloring for a great copper maran as she grows - Thanks in advance for your help :)

yahoo!! wonderful news lady. Bet you are just loving the space opening up! I processed 4 today after work and have another 5 or 6 marked for culling....and still am deciding on the pullets to go to my friends....but hopefully I'll have success as well soon!

I am!!!

I've decided to use the dog pen that the roos were in as a day-tractor for the youngsters to get out!

If only I was brave enough to free-range my young Marans....
THEN all that space, especially in the layer house, would be a major blessing!!

I do free range from a coop near the house that houses my pet birds b/c they come running when I come out of the house and all the babies learn to come running, too!

Congrats on thinning out your ladies, too!!
It IS an amazing feeling! and I'll bet even more amazing when I look at this month's feed bill!!

Gotta get BUILDING more housing!!
Need to finalize the row housing plans and pick a place!!

I need close enough to home for the winter time and far enough away that we can actually have a YARD (say what?)

haha...you and I will be building at the same time then! Should be an interesting year!

Im going to try and take another photo.
Hi, not sure if anyone has given you any answers but in my inexperienced opinion Buckbeak looks like a wheaten to me. I've seen the descriptions and pictures of the hens to have amber eyes, feathered shanks, and gorgeous feathers like Buckbeak's... it also happens to be the type of Marans that I'm hoping to populate my chicken run with!! BUT I'm a total Newbie... so you can't trust me!! ;) Beautiful Bird!!! I want one!!

Cadeau: Our local Tractor Supply had those Red Rangers... they said the local farmers came in and bought them all out in the first half hour. How many do you plan to get? We've got a guy that will process the chooks for $1.50 each, but no set up for meaties ....yet.

I would love to have some goats or a cow... we still just starting off. Got about 7 or so clear acres, NON fenced. What kind of goats do you have? I keep reading that boer goats are the way to go. Do you agree?

Time to roll the EMU egg....

Hey Slick!
We've been into them for @3yrs now - great stock....easy to deal with!
Good eating, too!!

Hmm - now that I think of it, our friend got a new bull last summer from Texas!
Send any stock north lately?

Only had ours about 2.5 years now and we're expecting our first set of calves late August early September. The heat last summer threw us off on the breeding schedule. Are you a member of PAUS?

Hi Martha!

We're hoping to do @150 in 2 sets....have a message in to my SO to make SURE he has his orders in!!

We're the opposite - we have 15 WET acres - fenced, but trying to reclaim from woods...

Come and get a goat (PLEASE!)

We have Boer and Boer/Nubian cross at home and Spanish Meat and Spanish Meat//Boer at the big farm.

Both our bucks are Boer - like them a lot!
They clear the brush amazingly well!!

On the big farm (350 acres dairy left to pot for 10 years - fields covered in multifloral rosebushes.... - and they're CLEARING them ALL!!

My SO is so jealous of the Emu egg!!
We visited a farm a couple weeks ago that had Emus - amazing birds!
