Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

So, i dont believe my friend has gotten to post yet so i will for him.
He Has some black coppers that have developed white feathers on the breast. Not just a couple here and there but Full White patch. What might cause this? Any and ALL ideas would be great. He believes that the hen that threw this are of the Wade lineage. Thanks

Awesome!

I only have 3 BCM and 2 cochin eggs to go!
One is halfway zipped, but seems to be taking a rest (he pipped the wrong end of the egg, so might be working a bit hard...)

Not a single blue yet, either...

awww really? bet he is tuckered out! Too bad you don't have any blues yet. I'm not sure what I have for colors yet to be honest....blacks and blue mostly....maybe one splash, but might just be a light blue. Will have to wait to find out for sure when I take them out.

i got a trio of black copper marans and one of the pullets just started laying and she lays a 5 to a 6 on the color chart but my other pullet lays about a 2 or 3 and one of her earlobes has a white tint is she still good for breeding or should i get rid of her?

I wouldn't use the second one because of the white on the earlobes.

Well I was going to wait and let this guy grow up a little before deciding to get rid of him but after I posted pics and started really looking at him closely... I decided I am not going to keep him. When I look down at him from the top he is narrow. He has some little feathers between his toes too I realized. I have 7 BCM cockerels who are 6 weeks old that I can still choose from. I had somebody who wanted him so I got rid of him today. I need to take a pic of the legs on the other 3 month old cockerel in this pen. His legs look oddly light to me.
I am happy I have a good little group to choose from so I can be really picky on who gets to stay. The girls on the other hand... I have so few I don't get to be so picky about them yet. lol
