Just stopping by quicky - had my second surgery on Friday, so haven't been around much...

Congrats to all on their hatches!!

I had a wonderful hatch last night/today!
So far, I have 20 BCM and 2 bl CM out of the hatcher and tons more to come out tomorrow morning!

AND - I FINALLY got my first Olive Egg!!

It's a totally gorgeous army green and a full sized egg
- well worth the wait!!

I'll try for pics tomorrow, maybe when I'm on less pain meds! haha ;)
Congrats on your hatch!!! Good prayers and vibes coming to YOU for healing up to deal with all those new chookens!

Ron ~ Boy, oh boy; it sure all makes me wonder how hens do it naturally with all this added crap to incubate these eggs?? I don't ever recall seeing a hen with a hygrometer on her tummy.

I recently bought some eggs off of ebay. My first purchase. I got 10 blue maran eggs and got 10 live chicks with a stryofoam incubator. One of the chicks was yellow and is now turning into a very light gray or blue. Is this light color unusual? Do marans come in lavender colors?

Glad your surgery is over, I'm totally jealous over that olive egg, sounds like your hatch is going well!

Yes the bearded one must be an Ameraucana or an Olive Egger. OEs can have either slate legs or greenish legs. I see slate here with most of mine. The beard is a dead giveaway that it is not a pure Marans. I'm not sure if that chick just happened to be in the photo or if the poster was just asking for an evaluation of the blue marans lol.

Coop de Grille: If they did not come from pure blues they won't be pure blue, they will be blue coppers. Watch the males and see if they get any coppering on their hackles or saddle feathers. Females don't always show coppering even if they are from copper based birds so the males are a better indicator although not 100%. They do all look to be nice Marans (the blue birds).

Sounds like you might have a splash baby. This is two copies of the blue gene instead of one. Can you post a pic? There are a few lavender Marans in existence now but they are strictly projects and I don't know of any being sold yet so most likely a splash.
