Hi all, Will elaborate a little on the White undercolor, This is a genetic fault just like the white in wing or tail feathers. I will never breed any of this white again as it will be there in a lot of the offspring. I have been there done that and did not like the outcome.
If you notice a lot of the Wheaten males have what we oldtimers call a cotton tail, that is they have a ball of white fluff at base of the tail where it joins the back. This is a no no also.
You have been so helpful Don. Like I said in an earlier post - I learn something new every day. I have yet to read anything about white down undercoats. I acutally went out today and wrestled a couple of my roos, including the one in the pic, so that I could check their undercoat - sure enough the one in the first set of pics does have a white downy undercoat.
However, my younger group of birds, which consist of two roos, do NOT have the white undercoat. Their undercoat was more dark grey or light black - hard to tell with the roo flopping and flapping for its life. The tiny feathers that were flying were black. They are also "better" looking roos in my humble opinion. I may post pics later.
