Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

IF you are likely to be bitten, perhaps you would want to wear a bracelet with your allergies.

I'm somewhat allergic to horses and chickens. I try to manage it. I'm off the flonase for the summer, my skin gets thin. Like I can run a farm with thin skin. LOL Eyes get very itchy--loratadine to the rescue. Funny how I can eat chicken and not have an issue but the dander seems to be the problem.

I'm allergic to all the animals, chickens and horses included, though some are worse for me than others...

But, I'm allergic to so many things, I'd have to live in a bubble if I wanted to avoid them all haha

In thinking about it - I bet, with some special training and a very special dog, they could find you one to alert high blood sugar, just like they have dogs that will alert a seizure before it strikes!
I guess it all comes down to the chemicals released and the scent that results!
yeah, I know they do have dogs that detect changes in blood sugar.. one of the Rotts we had learned that on his own with my Dad...he would keep my dad from falling asleep and my dad learned when he would exhibit certain behaviors either his blood sugar was too high or low and to either get my mom or to check his blood sugar. He was a really good dog.

Ok, it took me almost 45 minutes to load 3 pics, back on page 3665, is no one going to comment??

C'mon, at least the Wheaten chick is Marans! If you don't like Lazer, that's ok, the SGs are an aquired taste...

I must have missed them somewhere...I'm gonna go a huntin

Amen to Loratadine...its saved me since I moved back to NE. Luckily I can buy the generic for 99 cents for a 10 pack....otherwise it'd get pretty expensive quick with how bad it is in the summer haha

I wish - Loratidine doesn't do a thing for me, but generic allegra does help at least keep my sinuses from filling up completely and my throat closing up.

I DID find allergy eye drops that work really well!

I used nasal sprays, every kind of allergy med and the ONLY thing that HELPED was the shots. I still have to take generic Claritin and Zertek (1 year supply at Costco for $20? each ) With both I don't really have a problem. It does take BOTH to keep it controlled. Chickens don't bother me YET.... but I do try to were a mask when cleaning anything chicken related.
Zyrtec makes my vertigo go CRAZY.... like fall right over and have to crawl on the floor for several days vertigo...

yikes....makes me feel lucky I only have eye and sinus problems due to pollen certain times of the year. I don't know what I'd do if I was allergic to animals!!

That sounds terrible! As far as allergies go here, if I eat a smooth skinned avacado, or a cantalope, I get bumps and minor swelling on the inside of my mouth. Every once in awhile, if I am in heavy red clover, like mowing or raking hay, I get congested, but only with red clover. That's the only things I can think of that I've ever had a reaction to, oh, and Alleve! That would break me out in hives, all over my body, and I mean ALL OVER, the size of silver dollars! Guess I lucked out in that department. Now, if the arthritis would go away, and I could rebuild my joints, I'd be good to go! Oh yeah, about the snakes! Don't discount the rarity of the Pygmy or Timber rattlers, I shot a Pygmy here in my front yard some years ago!

Ugh...as much as I LOVE having the haymow full, I am SOOOO allergic to hay (or even someone cutting the grass!)

If hay touches more than the palms of my hands, I break out....
I always tell my horses they're lucky I love them so much! haha
