Chatter on the Marans Club board suggests there may be quite a few folks showing Marans at the Ohio National this year. I hope you can swing it, gilavina!! Would be GREAT to meet a few more faces from BYC!!![]()

It time for some of the Marans eye color to finish. When talking about young fowl just would not worry about it yet.To see a number of specimens all the same place at the same time is a wonder learning experience. Easier to see subtle differences. I envy that you are so much closer.
VIsiting with 2 of my young males, I had the opportunity to look at their eyes close up. I noticed one had a darker orange and spots of lt orange, the other had a uniform med orange color. HOw does eye color breed forward. WIll the guy with the spots also produce good color eyes,? Or is the color dominating and too few good color be produced?
I've had mixed results with the eye color testing...most of that is because I haven't been super precise with writing it down. In working with dark eye color and crossing them onto an orange eyed bird, its a pretty even mix of the two for eye color with the offspring. Occasionally I've had a bird that will always throw colored eyes I don't like, so culled them. I always test mate birds to try it out when I am not sure if it will breed forward or not. Perhaps someone else might know the specifics of breeding forward with eye color that have been in the Marans longer than ITo see a number of specimens all the same place at the same time is a wonder learning experience.
