Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

This may be more of a Golden Cuckoo Marans??

I got some Wade-Jeane C-1 chicks from BYC CrazyforEggsJulie last fall. We have 6 new babies from them. I have kept the flock closed.
I also have a Bev Davis Line and a Davis-Wade-Jean line I house all separately. Is there a benefit/disadvantage to keeping the C-1's closed. How long before problems crop up--any advice and knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated! Kathy
Seems like if you are not in the small marans clique you just get ignored. Maybe someday I'll measure up.

I agree with Don. #37 is your best bird. Are you looking to keep only one of them?

I wanted to keep 2 or 3. Are there others in the group that are worthy of keeping/breeding? Maybe a rank, best to worst, would help me, along with comments on why they are ranked that way?

Elisha~

How's it going today? Did you get your hygro/therm and turner all going?

This is a VERY large and fast-moving thread; your question has already been answered, more than once, but most folks are more than happy to answer again. You might try the "search this thread" just below the red title. Also, if you don't get an answer in a day or so, feel free to ask again politely. Commenting in the way you did above will not make you any friends....just sayin'.

Your so right--sorry, forgive me y'all I wasn't very nice.
No worries!

In answer to your question, there are lots of reasons to keep lines pure. You get more consistency that way, with more predictable outcomes. You do need to learn to linebreed correctly so that you're continuously accentuating the positive attributes of the line as opposed to bringing out the negative ones. Record keeping is essential. Any birds that you are breeding, it helps to know their lineage and what attributes they throw on their offspring when mated to a specific cock bird. The more information you - along with pictures - the better off you will be in whatever your breeding endeavors are.
