Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I would like to sell off some of my roosters, as I currently have too many (15-20). They are 5-month old, big, beautiful, non-aggressive, healthy Marans, D'Anvers, Silkies and Barred Rock cockerels. I would prefer to sell them to a good home than to have them sent to freezer camp. If anyone is interested and can pick up in CT Valley Area, please send me a PM.

Perhaps you ca post some pics of the marans, as this is a marans thread. Have you posted on the Ct, RI and MA and NY threads?

I live in Minnesota, and I am looking for a purebred Marans (with an "s").

You got it! It's a French words! LOL I often post on my state thread when I'm looking for something specific.

I need to ask some of you experts for some information. My 16 week old pullet started limping last week. She is now, "down on her hocks".. Do any of you know what is wrong with her and if there is anything I can do for her? I have her in isolation right now. It started with one leg and it seems she now has trouble getting up at all. One thought was that she had a genetic disorder from her mother having poor nutrion. Another thought is some kind of vitamin deficiency. I thought at one time she just hurt her leg, but now her other leg is doing it. Any suggestions? If I have to put her down, how is that done? When do I know if there is nothing else to do for her????? Poor baby. Have any of you had any experience with this type of problem? She is the only chicken I bought from a local lady. Thanks for any help.

All I know is keep her away from the others..... check the legs\feet for obvious issues.... get some vitamin supliment for the water.... change the feed (I put them back on the 22% babie starter when they are sick)
Pray, keep an eye on her and just see what happens....

we had a few that had leg problems and went down on their hocks when we 1st started with chickens- we ended up switching to a feed from the local mill which was a closed formula compared to the food we had been feeding which was mixed on what ever ingredients were cheapest that week. We did lose the birds but haven't had problems since. From what I have read many things can mimic Mareks or have similar symptoms. It is probably a very good idea to keep this one away from the others to be on the safe side. Good Luck.

I may lose my job. Its sad because I didnt do anything wrong. Im finding out more and more that there is no room for honesty and good people in this day an age. The world is getting more corrupt and evil. We the people are told to be silent and just go along with the program or be shunned. Sorry I don't roll like that. If the lord can die for me and my sins then Im going to try and do the best I can to stand my ground. And then to top everything off I found out a close uncle of mine died today. When it rains it pours. Im just looking for the rainbow that follows.
