Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

7 out of 7 Blue Copper Marans hatched!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to have to get Broody Sally (a Black Ameraucana) a prize. Exactly day 21 to the hour - and the last one is out.

Lots of black chicks this time. Only a couple appear blue. Not a problem. Just an observation. (Blue Copper Marans cock over Black Copper pullets.)

Congrats! That is an awesome hatch. What a good chicken momma you have!

I've built a new box for the family. Close to the ground but securable and with some space to move. (Will be "The broody box" in the future.) Got everyone moved in. Broody Sally seems thrilled. She's busy keeping the recently hatched one warm and teaching the others to eat. Never fails to amuse me. Will get some pictures posted later.

My cup runneth over yet again ....

Bummer, my hatchery cuckoo maran lays a lighter egg. Well at least they are still good eggs. I was hoping for chocolate brown.

The big picture

Gene (Blue Ameraucana cockerel) seem a bit confused. "Are those mine?" (His are growing out in the house. No broody available when I was collecting those eggs.)

Pink I got a couple of pics of your girl today, I will PM them to you later.... after I figure out how to get them off my phone and onto the computer. I am sure someone in that pen is laying.... I need to move them around. I have a very lonely roo that needs some company.

HOW ABSOLUTLY SWEET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that brooder is awesome how do you keep the dishs in place?? I could use this lol

I love that you noticed!!! I had to work on that for a bit. Ended up using a plastic ruler cut in half to clip the dishes over - set out from the wall. Allows Broody mama to be aggressive with the dish (it slides on the ruler) without making a complete mess immediately!

And you will notice that I have food and water on opposite sides of the box. I have learned that Broody mamas are not concerned about mess. Just showing the kids where stuff is. Just me that cares about the mess.
