That's how I understand it ..... I wonder why it doesn't apply to the fluff. Another question for Roger!

Yes, that's correct. Thanks - it looks like I do have a young cockerel that is overmelanized. He is still very young so we will see... but he is for sale so maybe I wont be able to see what happens in a few months...
so the copper should be on the hackles and over the back and the saddle? No coppering on the chest and underline.
took more pics of him today. Now I know my neighbors think I am crazy.....lol chasing a rooster around the yard like paparazzi....lol I have to go to a friends house to upload them and will try to do it tonight. Thanks to all for the input so far. Just want to make sure I am breeding somewhat decent. And hopefully will be able to show in a yr or so.Hi - sorry, I was going to say my thought on this male, but I got sidetracked. Picanins is right - the angle of the picture is not the best for us to be able to give you good feedback on him. From what I can see, his color balance is very nice, and his tail angle looks to be perfect. Shank feathering may be a bit light, but it's tough to see in the picture. He has a nice, long back, which is a personal preference of mine. It "appears" as though his eyes may be a bit too light, but that's also a tough call with the angle. Please try to get a picture of him standing still, from down at his level, from the side. We'll be able to give more feedback this way. And, remember that there are only so many things we can comment on by way of a picture.
I have a beautiful boy and girl without alot of copper...That's how I understand it ..... I wonder why it doesn't apply to the fluff. Another question for Roger!

They are really young to show but whatever! Good for you. Hard to judge your black girl in the picture but her tail angle looks a bit sharp. I might be starting to get a bit concerned about the lack of copper on the male at this point. I believe he should be showing more by now. To my eye, he looks awkward and gangly which is as it should be given his age. I like his shape as well. I would definitely keep growing him out and hope the colour comes. Your blue girl doesn't scream anything glaring at me either (which is a good thing!) I'm looking forward to seeing them in person at the show. May just have to drag you here to my place to see my youngsters to compare ....![]()
PS. That dang white underfluff doesn't seem to appear until MUCH later - closer to a year or even beyond with my birds.
There are 2 schools of thought. Blacks should be just black to make the best blacks you can. Then there is the Blue, Black and Splash can run together theory. I don't have enough black to have a pen for just blacks... yet so they all run together.I have a question . Can you breed splash and blue to black ? I read that you can then I read that your nope suppose to do that. I have read so much it may be running together...lol
