Well since I breed for blue and not black and only use black for making blue, I see no problems keeping a black pullet or black male to use every now and then when breeding for blue.

Kim, that would not be a problem at all, Where the problem comes in is when someone breeds them back to BC and keeps the young for a BC program.

I'm in catch-up mode once again.  hobby - I have  that you do not see the white underfluff in your male.  Some of them get it as early as 8 weeks, but the CH line I had didn't get it until they were much older.  ANd, I had another line (Davis X Jeane) that didn't get them until he was almost 2.  But - I would think that more times than not, they would appear much sooner.  So - put me on your hatching egg list NOW, please - and keep me posted on the white underhackle feathering, okay?

What does "Mother Nature" have to do with combining chicken colours? If we left it up to "Mother Nature" ALL the chickens would be mingling together and we wouldn't have any pure breeds at all - not to mention colours.



Humans are the ones messing with/controlling the genes; who gets to breed with whom, that decide what constitutes a "breed", a "colour", a "variety". There is very little natural about most of poultry these days."















I'm sorry......I don't know what I was thinking about when thinking that Mother Nature had anything to with anything, but the last time I checked Mother Nature had everything to do with everything...............without her hand in things we wouldn't have chickens at all. Guess I'm out of my element here and will go back to the playground with the rest of the kiddies.

they aren't yellow. But they are lighter than they are suppose to be. I hatch a couple of eggs a few months ago to make sure he was fertile and all the offspring have dark legs. I went back and looked at the pic and they sure do look it in the pic.....wow

So.....what was the point of purchasing the eggs, then? Not trying to be controversial, just curious! Were you simply not happy with the hatchlings?

You can tell I was super tired when I posted that. I never finished the sentence. I meant to say that I never bred the ones that show white underfluff when it has shown up as they were growing from hatchlings or chicks I've ordered. I do hold back those that have the type, and color I am looking for tho. Hope that clears that up... I'm not getting much sleep at all the last few weeks, so forgive me.

Pinkchick I also do the same for the coloring and help maintain type if needed. VIVI

Hiya peeps!

My son is showing his Marans at Sussex this weekend. This is our first real showing of birds (he did showmanship before, but birds were not judged). I am super excited and VERY nervous.

This is the Wh Marans he named Snow White. She is coming to the show as she is his favorite. She is only 4 months old and not ready to be shown.... but, I figured it could be worth the $2 to see what the judge thinks.
