Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

How the heck does someone from the Alabama area make it all the way to Michigan? Oh my God, it gives me the CHILLS just thinking about it!

From what I hear, the folks in Michigan are not familiar with southern things like grits and sweet tea. How about country fried steak with black pepper gravy?
Do they eat fried catfish and hushpuppies up North?

That is COOL! The websites for that stuff are great. I have reached dead ends on several lines, my mom's dad we have NOTHING just him. I traced one line to Tecumseh but it is all rumors

My dad's side of the family has TONS of work done for me already, lots of books with that info in it already published. Got lucky really.
Curious, I have the same kind of road block with my Mom's father. He was Canadian, and rumored to have gone into the Iroquois tribe lineage? My Dad's father, who was a Congressman in the early 40s is proving to be hard to trace. I had a guy e-mail me from where I thought my Grandfather was born, and this nice man went to several cemetaries and found my Great Grand parents' graves! For free! So now I have more to go on. Wish chickens could be tracked like this; maybe it's time for an Ancestry dot com for chooks??

don't even get me started about country fried steak and black pepper gravy! I grew up with it here in NE. Tasty!

I'm originally from CT. Moved to NM, then to Michigan. Then moved to CA, then from there to MO! I just ate out the other morning when my daughter came for a visit, and I had grits and chicken fried steak with sawmill gravy. Still hate grits and sweet tea! But I'm loving the catfish and hushpuppies!

I have gotten as far back as Ireland on my dad's side and then ran into a dead end - told my kids that our family probably changed their name when they came over here

would like to get back into researching- just lack the time,

Very interesting information as far as the Marans. On a sad note- when doing chores tonight my cuckoo pullet was dead- felt on the light side so not sure if she wasn't eating enough or something internal going on.

Hoping that we will be able to set for a NYD hatch- all depends on if the chickens start laying again- it has taken me 12 days to get just 12 eggs out of 20 girls.

I had a cousin that wrote a book and listed all the cemeteries in several counties AND ALL THE PEOPLE BURIED THERE with pictures to boot!

My mom's dad left home at 13 and we THINK he came from Alabama but who know since he used like 3 names and birthplaces on censuses
