I agree Wynette, I get some of them from the Wheatens, I have set the chaulky but none of them have hatched. I believe Randy, said he has had some hatch though.
Wynette, the original proposed Standard said I believe mid-dark slate. I will never feed another white to light slate male. From the Black Copper standard:
Shanks and Toes : Shanks and toes light to mid-slate, showing pink between the scales. Bottoms of feet pinkish white.
The wheaten are the only ones I have had, nothing from the BC.Don, I have never been able to have any of the mauve hatch, either. I think their coating is EXTRA thick, and that could be why. I only had one female in the past lay them - when I would run them under water, they would show the true dark under color - I took a pic once of one as it was drying. I'll see if I can find it (just for fun).
Wynette, I thought the original proposed standard with Mid to dark Slate was what it should of been. Now folks get mixed up the the light and white. Lets start watching some of these important things on BYC and make a point of bringing it up when critiqueing the fowl."When the BC SOP was changed at the last minute to light legs and not the medium slate it was going to be, all this did was encourage folks to breed for the white feathers."
Am I mis-reading? It was not changed to light, it is now stating "mid-slate" - from your post above, it sounds like that is what you are preferring, the mid-slate...? Am I wrong? You previously had stated we should be breeding for dark slate, so I'm confused.
