Haha, thanks! I do love them so.
Hi all!
First let me introduce: I'm from Catalonia and this autumn I've started breeding Marans and a local dwarf breed called "flor d'ametller" (Almond blossom) a months ago
This is my first post in this thread.
I show you my marans crew and eggs:
These are my first eggs layed this past week, marans and "flor d'ametller":
Some eggs from a french reputed breeder for incubation:
Thank you to let me post in this awesome thread.
HOLY COW!!! Those almost look purple! Wow, maybe Maran's breeders are importing from the wrong country...... ;-)Welcome to BYC!!!![]()
I take note of the egg carton in the picture that has 10 slots. There were some unbelievably dark Marans eggs posted on Facebook last week by someone from Turkey in a carton with only 10 slots. I've been trying to figure out where the 10 slot egg cartons are from. I see that you are from Spain. Are the 10 slot cartons from Spain? Or maybe France?
This is the picture posted from someone in Turkey. Most definitely NOT mine ... but I sure wish they were!

I agree, those are certainly lovely. I would have heart failure if I went out and found one of those I think. Maybe someday before I die I'll have birds that lay that dark!HOLY COW!!! Those almost look purple! Wow, maybe Maran's breeders are importing from the wrong country...... ;-)
Those eggs look like mini eggplants! I could die a happy woman if I got just one bird that layed that color! Now...wonder what the birds they came from look like??![]()
Be careful what you ask for Barb. I had some totally hideous girls that laid a nice dark egg, albeit nowhere like those, but I want the best of both worlds combined. I guess a gal can dream...You know, Debbi, I don't think I'd care a whit what the bird(s) looked like that laid that egg. I'd happily make it a part of my flock! And call it whatever ... those are some seriously swanky eggs!![]()

I am all about the egg colour. I don't care if they look like Guinea fowl crossed with Sebastopol geese. If they lay an egg that looks like that, I'll work with them!
