Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

The
Hello everyone! I am one of those who don't own any Marans but am looking for one. I was hoping to find anyone who has a pullet or hen available in or around NE Oklahoma. I will buy chicks but would feel more comfortable if they are a little over 2 weeks so I don't have such a fear of screwing up and killing them. If not in that location then perhaps meet in the middle which would be around the area. I am about an hour away from Tulsa... I might consider driving farther if she is show quality for my soon to be 4-H chicken showing daughter and perhaps son (if hes interested in what big sis is doing). Also wanting to add that dark egg to my basket as well as adding a new feathered friend to our flock. Any info is greatly appreciated!:D

If you are still looking for marans I live in Tulsa & we bought ours from a lady that lives in Cintrilla Ok. Just outside of Talala. The drive wasn't bad. If you are interested let me know & ill give you her #

My 1st half dozen. The first laid were speckled the last nice and smooth. I just had to take a picture before using 3 to bake a cake.

I had a double yolker hatch once, i didn't know it was because it was a marans egg and too dark to candle well. One chick almost hatched on it's own and eventually i broke down and gave it a little help, and to my surprise there was another fully formed chick inside the egg. The second one was DOA, and the first one lived for only a couple of days as it was very weak and tiny. But i hear it's very very rare for even one chick to hatch from a double yolker.

I have a French Black Copper Maran Cockerel that needs a new home. I had originally ordered a black orpington but instead got a black copper maran. He recently went to Maryland Poultry Fanciers Show and was very well behaved. He loves his hens and protects them very well. He is very pretty and would be a great addition to any breeding stock. We are located in Lothian Maryland near Washington D.C. Please email me at [email protected] or send me a message if you are interested in giving him a good home.
