Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I took some pic of a pullet I have. Kind of excited to put her in the breeding pen..... soon since she started to lay. Not the best egg color but I expected to lose egg color this year after losing my Original Roos. I have NEVER had a pullet with this kind of copper. GREAT feathered legs too. Her eyes are not dark it is just the camera doing that.

Oh she is really pretty Donna! I haven't got that much copper on my BCMs either. But this is my first year breeding my own birds so we'll see how they turn out

very nice!!!

Does anyone have a breeding age solid black roo from good lines available? I had to cull all the roos I had. I have a Splash roo who is growing out which is fine but that means I will only get Splash this year as I have 2 splash hens and even then not until late July and that's if he figures out what to do early. I do have a blue hen but she is kind of small and I was thinking of culling her from the program. I have been looking all winter and can't find anything. I do have eggs in the bator but we all know about counting chicks before they hatch :) -my blue hen- sussex hen on one side leghorn pullet on the other.

Did you breed her yourself or did she come from a outside source? She is very nice looking!

Beautiful Birds. I have never owned any marans until this past Saturday when I bought some from the feed store. I also bought some eggs blue and black copper maran about 16 that I put in the incubator Monday! Can't wait to see how they turn out in almost 3 weeks.
