Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

May not be the best pics and I know they are not perfect but they are nice and will get to grow some more. I have my pick of the younger ones too as they grow out at her farm. ..... she will have plenty for me to pick from in a few weeks. I will go back in a month if we can work it out.

Every roo is a little different. The guy on the left is black with a halo. I found that my blues with halos added nice color to the pullets so I am going to see if that works with a black. The guy on the right is more Copper and darker over all.

Here is the darker guy above. Hoping he will get more color but we will see.

this is the blue. He has a little halo but looks so much like his grandfather I got from @pinkchick

This guy has a little copper on his breast and is more mahogany in color. Not sure on him. But I may test him and see if I get some pullet with some color as some have suggested.

This is the blue again. He is the WIDEST at the tail. He was picked and lost his tail. She said it was a really pretty tail and I think she is right. His stump (LOL) looks to be the right angle.

This is the darker roo again from the top. He is very dark Mahogany on his wings and saddle feathers.

This is they guy with copper on his chest.... he is just mahogany all over.

This roo is the one with a halo from the top.

Here is the blue again..... he is my favorite so far and will be the first in the breeding pens. So soon I will be getting some splash babies as I have 6 blue hens in that pen.

Blue from the front.

Mahogany roo from the front.

All have feathered legs some better than others. The blue roo has the least but it is all over his legs. It may grow back as she had so many roos they were fighting a lot and may have lost some feathers that way.... IDK. All have nice colored legs and nice color eyes. SUPER Pleased to have some choices. I still have a few more I have kept from my hatches but they still have much more growing out to do.

BTW if you don't remember what the blue roos (really all of them) grand sires looked like from pink here they are. Comparing now I like the younger roo better. He looks bigger and I like his color better more even

I am going to cross him with this pullet first.... Might single mate them for a few weeks.

I can't wait to show you the blue we hatched from your eggs on New Years, he is a gorgeous dark blue with a very deep mahogany coming in. Very excited to see him grow out!

Several more hatched over night and they are all black. I emailed the breeder. I saved up for months to get the whites, and I want the whites now, not in 6 months when I can save up money again. :(
If you ordered whites from this breeder and you received black, then the breeder should make it right. Not good for his reputation to be delivering something different than you ordered and paid for. So I'm sure they will make it right.

ask the breeder. could they have been bred white x …. marans to Darken the eggs ( birchen , black copper etc. since it is recessive white if bred to another variety the chicks would be dark and probably grow up black but still hold the gene so if you bred them together or back to white you would get some clean looking white.

There not Marans but when I get the black tail buff from you here in a few weeks I can send you some White Empordanesa
They are pretty neat , can lay a dark egg though it varies between bird , heat hardy and very alert. They are the white chicks below

I would of contacted you already but I have traded a lot of eggs this year and I keep getting them in the mail and I only have 2 incubators I shouldn't
have anything else unplanned so I will be ready in about 2-2 1/2 weeks
