Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Yeah, that helps, it's got some of them. I'm all over the internet and haven't found a single list with ALL of them, so I'm trying to get a complete list together to publish on my blog. There's so much confusion because of different names for some of the varieties..

The page you posted has Golden Salmon, is that genetically the same as Black Breasted Red?

Here is a list of varieties I've gleaned from Bev's site (www.bevsmarans.com/) and various other sites. (Asterisks indicate the varieties I own)

*Silver Cuckoo
Golden Cuckoo
*Black
Birchen
*Black Copper AKA Black-Red
*Wheaten
*Black-tailed Red
*White
*Columbian AKA Ermine AKA Light
Blue Copper AKA Blue-Red
Blue Birchen
Self Blue
*Blue Wheaten
*Blue Tailed Buff
Crele
Silver Crele (I don't know what this is)
Blue Cuckoo

Golden-salmon - are these Black Breasted Red?

From the French site: http://www.marans.eu/saum.htm
Gold and Silver varieties saumonné saumonné - Are these Golden Duckwing and Silver Duckwing? Or BBR and ?
What is Silver Salmon?

Sure hoping someone can help with this- can't seem to find the answers to these questions.

In Black Copper Marans, if you breed a BCM with another BCM split with Wheaten, you will get (I believe it is...) 3 out of 4 chicks that are (pure) BCM, and one that is Wheaten (or, split for Wheaten.).

Does the same testing of extended black and a pure BCM result in having such and such amount of chicks are BCM correct, and such and such amount of chicks also hold true for Extended black? Or, do all chicks automatically become Extended Black? (eb gene too dominate?)

Is there a true, no-fail test for extended black like there is to determine Wheaten in the genes? One more thing- what is duckwing (in regards to BCM)? Is this just regarding the lower wing triangle color? (If it is black, it is crow wing?)

Since eb isn't actually a true black Marans, is there any uses for them other than layers or olive eggers?

Thanks, and very grateful for your time and consideration- these questions have been bothering me for a long while.

I'll be watching for an answer too...good questions...

--------
1. Yes, duckwing refers to the lower wing triangle.
a. in silver duckwing it is white.
b. in red/gold duckwing ( also known as Black Breasted Red) it is cinnamon colored.
c. I forget the color it is in golden ducking and red shouldered silver duckwing. My best guess is white.
Anyone remember what color the lower wing triangle is in eWh (Wheaten) Marans? I think it is cinnamon?

d. If the lower wing triangle is black, then it is called crow wing.
Best,
Karen
