Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

That is really cool :)... well done!  i have never been brave enough to show mine yet..

Well I think they would do well if you did! I was sad to find out the blue is not an APA approved color because "Blue" the blue rooster is much larger, has a better comb, and is even sweeter than "Koda" the black one. But the black one has the light brown/gold eyes and better feathers on the legs. While the blue one has less leg feathers and dark brown eyes. The judge told me to use him for breeding just use the biggest hens I have. Too bad I only have one hen ;)

I have a small black (i think marans black cooper ones) she is 4 months old her comb looks like pea comb can a maran have pea comb

I only have one hen and one rooster if my rooster breeds my hen to often will my hen be ok and will her egg be fine

She should be fine, but she might get a bit raggedy looking, because sometimes the roosters will rough up the feathers on the hen's back and neck, or he may pull some feathers off. Her eggs will be fine though.

Does anyone have some BCM hatching eggs they wouldn't mind sharing? My only BCM hen just went broody and I only have 2 of her eggs sitting out lol. She's determined too. I kicked her out of the box at least 5 times today and she's like a boomerang!

Where are you located? Are you looking for local eggs to you or shipped also?

Shipped or local, doesn't matter. I'm in central, PA. I find it hilarious. She's my third broody.....this fall. I think my girls are all confused and think it's spring lol. It's our first year with chickens too and the girls are only about 7 months old lol.
