Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Is there any hope for approval of the blue variety soon? I hate keeping un-needed roosters around. If they can't be shown then I don't want to breed him and my house rule is a rooster that can't show or breed has to go. I did meet another mom at the show with BCM's and she might want him. I have too many cockerels and they are starting to fight so some need to move on :(

I am looking for BCM rooster. I am in Dade City, FL. Even a young too would do. Trying f a coo of BCM and some Easter Eggers Thanks

too bad you're so far away. I have a 3 week old BCM who is an obvious roo. Figures. I hatched out 10 chicks, only 2 of which are pure BCM and at least 1 is a boy lol. I'm hoping the other is a girl but can't tell yet.

Where is Dade City? I have quite a few Roo's, some are gorgeous but are splits, however they are worth thinking about. I also have three that are pure BCM but not as handsome as the splits. Two of the not so handsome came from extremely dark eggs so you get either handsome with not such great egg color or fab egg color and not so handsome. the third pure BCM roo is OK looking, tail a bit high and leg feathering not great, he will give good egg color but he is quite aggressive.

I plan to keep two, of the splits myself and use them, they are so nice and breed them in with the dark egg color hens i have.

EDIT: I just saw the EE part of the post. I have a Blue Wheaten Am rooster, he has been over my leghorn and Am flock, but i need to swap him out before i breed another generation they are too closely related, so the Roo has to go.

as an aside, i have a lovely lav orp roo too, but he needs to go to a nice home, he's to friendly to be dinner and i'll keep him if i have to.

I am going out of the country on 11/4 and am hoping to be relieved of most of these roos by the time I leave. I am in Homestead, zip code 33031.

I saw a blue copper marans in a show in Inverness FL last year.. definitely don't be put off.

I don't know if you are able to do this, but i just turf mine out into the yard to run around until i can deal with them, they don't go anywhere (it's fenced) and they seem quite happy. but it can be freakishly disconcerting once they have learned that you are the feed bucket and they come barrelling over towards you every time you go out there.

Does anyone have some BCM hatching eggs they wouldn't mind sharing? My only BCM hen just went broody and I only have 2 of her eggs sitting out lol. She's determined too. I kicked her out of the box at least 5 times today and she's like a boomerang!
I have three sitting here and 4 single comb Olive Egger (Isbar X Marans) and 8 Isbar eggs. I'm in NW Oregon though

You can show them. They show unapproved colors all the time. You just can't win beyond your class.
