Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Math~

I couldn't tell you which one is "correct" but I can tell you which birds I like best because of the way they carry their tails and the length of their backs.

#1, #3, #5 and #7.

I always thought it was suppose to be the U shape too, but with everything changing I'm not sure anymore.

Pink -- maybe we will get some more feedback from the standard experts Walt or Bev .. . about the u or not u shape . . .

Also, I agree with #1, BUT Why do you prefer # 7 and not # 6 ? ?

I posted my assessment a page back... Sorry it took a long time...lots of birds.

Pink,

My girls look like #5 with the longer back. As I wrote earlier, two of the three are now starting to carry their tails higher, like they are "growing into" their back length. I love the look of the pert, very upright tails, but supposedly, they are supposed to also have a 45* tail angle like the roos. Do you happen to know the age of #5 pullet? I will try to get some (cough) decent pics of my girls tomorrow.

Thanks, I had a belated birthday dinner tonight with some friends. It was a good time.

I would love to see some of your hens and their backs and tails (tomorrow).

So, the U is out . . . we are looking for hens with a 45 degree angle. . . Do we want the seamless transition that geebs was referring to ? ? She said from the "coverts to the tail itself". . .

What is a covert ? ?

Dh cut down my dollar store stakable crates while I was out celebrating with friends. I think they are going to work perfectly. Because they are stackable - - I just doubled the hatching space in my cooler ! !

Covert = cover.. the smaller feathers covering.

It is like anything else... If it fits into the APA then there are things we just LIKE... Maybe the U is the way to go... I look at the box it is to fit in and thing about the bird.. These were not mature so they will likely change a little bit....

Oh and yep.... Those are some pretty eggies!!!! I just love the dark olive ones.. Those are sooo nice... I have been so far holding off on those but you are seriously making it hard with those super darkie olivy ones... Makes me think of Dr. Suess.
