Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

How do you like your new home? Did you get more horses?

Hi Donna, yes we LOVE LOVE LOVE it here!!!! And no, we have actually cut our herd from 14 a year ago to 7, and working on increasing chickens, esp. the BC and blue Marans, those eggs are AMAZING!!! I only have the one BC Maran hen out of the batch I got from you, and she only lays one egg every 2-3 days....have several blue Marans hens, eggs not quite as nice....but still good.

Quote: Glad to hear it! Seems my egg color made a huge leap last breeding season. Not really sure what happened. I have a couple of black copper pullets I am going to put in the pen soon. I hope the eggs keep getting darker this year. I thinned my flock way down. I only have 3 hens in the pen right now. May only have 5 when I get hatching again. I have 2 or 3 blue copper hens and the rest are black. I don't have a blue copper roo so I will be trying to get me one of those this year.

I thought you sold all your horses did you keep those 7 or get new ones?

I love your avatar. Oddly my mother's name Lorraine, and my dad had a 16H Appy like the one in you avatar.

This guy was a "birthday gift" from a city friend who couldn't have roosters. She wasn't sure about his breed.
I think he looks lots like a Cooper Marans... but his comb is weird. I should add, he has pink legs- since you can't seem em in this photo. Do you think he is a Marans with an oddly grown comb?
