Does anyone know what happened to the cottage hill line of Marans? Don't hear of them anymore. Heard many had great egg color and type
Sorry to jump in here so late on this topic. But the information given is correct. However, I have a Cottage Hill line of Wheaten directly from Ron. I have kept since 2006. I got eggs from him them and in 2007. And more recently a pair of roosters from Buddy in 2011-2012. I know I got them just before he passed those along to someone else.
I have kept them as a closed flock. There is an assorted pre-history to these birds Ron told me about. But the wheaten and BC Cottage Hill birds came from imports. From England. From a breeder there, Alan Heeks, I think was the name of this person?

I just added a blue copper to my flock! (Meanwhile, my poor GCM is working on healing a prolapsed vent... advice and well wishes appreciated).

cute chick pics!

Beautiful chicks!!! Too cute And about the prolapse I can't help you with, but best of wishes for her. All I can say is keep it clean, and I thinkin read where you can give baby aspirin to help relieve some pain.

X2. Can you give her some turmeric? It will help with inflammation.

I can!  Do you think I can just mix it with her water?  I'm keeping her off solid foods for a few days - she insists on laying, and the prolapse recurs when she poops, so I'm hoping a few days of bowel rest will help.

Smart, and when you start her back on solids in saw where someone gives her chickens cucumbers everyday, she said it helps keep down inflammation and she hasn't had a stuck egg (sorry couldn't think of the correct word for that at this moment) sense she started feeding them cucumber daily. It might help with. Keeping her from prolasping again in the future...????

Oooh... interesting... I'll try that when we start with food again. Maybe some diced cucumber tossed in turmeric. She did have a few paper-shelled eggs, which is I think where the problem started. At first, I tried giving her an egg with a crushed Tums every day. That solved the egg problem, but now it's a pooping issue. The poor thing... I will put her down if necessary, but I would rather heal her and get her back on track!
