Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Thanks Don! This is good to know, there are a few more pullets just like her from that batch, though some of them are not showing any copper and a couple of them are just starting to get some. I will look for the photos that I was able to get of them yesterday too. Atleast I have a really nice LOLOLOLOL "Golden Cockerel" I could use with the girls not showing enough copper.....

Beautiful colors and display.

Thank you very much Monique, but they are nothing compared to yours IMO. You have some gorgeous egg colors going on there at your place!

Math Ace There are ear coverts also.. that is the fluff that covers the ears...

I will have to go back and read a little more in depth and see where we are....

As far as back angles... The female is supposed to have a slightly sloped back... a little less than the male...

Pink, they sound like mine! All three have very dark coppering, and of course the one with feathered shanks has the least copper! When I picked up the girls the other day, I did notice some feathers starting to come in one one of the clean legged ones. She was the one that had fuzzy yellow shank feathers when hatched, so I guess they can come back, as long as there was something there in the first place. It sure isn't a lot, but feathers none the less.

Mornin' Geebs! I'd almost bet that #5 pullet is a Davis/Jeane cross, as mine are supposedly. She could put that girl in my pen, and you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart!

Oooo! I hit 1000 posts! Do I get a cookie???

Debbi I was thinking the same thing... It looks a lot like the breeding goal I have had... Can't wait to see it as a hen

Yes any black bird (Marans) that is here at my place is a Black Copper.....some have copper and some don't. Sorry about not showcasing Bill more for you.....he wasn't out playing yesterday.

Oh and geebs, that little blue pullet that you liked #3 (I think) that's Charmin! #7 is "Slate" named by Chooks (TY again Chooks) there is just something about this bird that I just love, though her egg color leaves some room for improvement and lots of it, she lays a #4 egg......I am going to be putting her in with Bill to see what I can do about egg color and see what kinda kiddos she and Bill will make.

If she is a Wade/Davis cross just keep breeding her back... The egg color will improve... I guess it is true you can't have it all... You get good shape and then the egg color is less than what is desirable... I get the same issues here. My pullet (favorite) lays a 5 at POL... I was hoping for more... Oh well next season....

PS.. I would squeeze that Charmin...
