If he doesn't just send them to me

of course that would mean putting the incuabtor back together and having to watch bator TV

So, what's the problem??

I have a pic of my chicks that looks exactly like what you are describing - inch long tail feathers and primaries an inch longer in one chick compared to another. I HOPE it is a gender thing, but the consensus was that, in my case (post 5055), both are male.

Oh there's no problem with that.... but we made an incubator out of a stryofoam cooler and I would like to up grade it to a cooler with a plastic inside(of course making one out the dorm size frig we have sitting in our garage taking up space would be nice too

) for ease of cleaning/disinfecting and that requires DH's help-not because I can't do it but he has all the needed tools on his truck..

guess I'll have to do a little hinting again(okay maybe big hinting!) and time seems to be at a premium these days for us.

Do you usually get a lot of the mossy colored chicks like the one on the right? He has a lot of brown mossy feathers coming in and would be worth looking into.

You are thinking of the right types of crates. I only used the zippered bags because I don't know how rowdy the little ones are going to get. If they knock over the stacking crates, I would have chicks running all over the place. This way, I will still know who is who. The stacking is pretty solid, but I don't know what the little ones are capable of - - yet !

X2! Must be the old fashioned kind?? Can't see the newer LEDs putting out much heat? What imaginations there are in here, wow!

I am kinda fond of the old fashioned types. I use them in the spring so that some of fruit bushes don't take a late freeze so hard . . .

You are right - - LED's would not do squawt for heating the little chickies !

SECOND - - PROUD and DELIGHTED to see you trying to read all the past posts. IT is the BEST way to LEARN a lot of material. . . Those are not just gossip or social posts, there was a lot of " meat and potatoes" in those posts that you have to chew on for a while ! !

THIRD - - I can not help you with the K and k and other questions because I just have not had enough birds or experience to say anything. HOWEVER, I wanted to give you a BIG shout out - - so that you knew we weren't ignoring you

Wynette and Pinkchick thanks for the welcome.
You asked for some pics. Here's what I mean.

Faster feathering at 10 days:

Slower hatchmate:

Fast chick again - see how long the wing feathers are. Slow hatchmate in front of her/him- see how the tail is significantly shorter:

Slow chick, (there's actually two like this):
