Don...NO OFFENSE intended (honest!!), but you've likely scared quite a few folks who ordinarily WOULD more than happily show their birds.....

geebs, I don't have any male BC at present that are any good for showing. I do have some female that are what I like and am breeding . I have culled so many male that I might have a problem mating up a few . Really whose is to say what is right and wrong. I am just doing it my way. I have not seen a black copper male in past two year worth taking home. Main thing is we are stuck with what we have.

Wynette, the show people you can not run off by saying there are no good males out there.

Don, I've just scrolled back through some pages and found more than one instance where you commented on cocks or cockerels stating they are very good...I realize that's just your opinion, and maybe you're saying there actually aren't "enough" good ones. But to say you haven't seen ANY when you stated the opposite previously...well....I'm just not sure what to think on that. Maybe, as we've talked about the proposed standard and possible revisisons, you've changed your mind. I do know that I'm certainly looking at ALL my Marans stock differently since we have spoken of things like pinched tails, width of back, and length of leg!

I made the comment a while back - - that the standard of perfection should be attainable. Otherwise it is set too high (IN FANTASY LAND). If white feathers are an issue with the breed - - a BIG issue - - then something like that should be a FAULT not a DQ.

It will be interesting to see how many males can be showned without DQ's and major fault issues.

Wynette, I was talking about BC males at shows, Most of the Black Copper I have commented were female and I have commented on a few males also. The best female I have seen on BYC was the one Pink showed a few days ago. I believe regardless of where we got our BC it is going to be a long process. For some reason I kinda like the females Debbi showed recently.

Don, I totally and wholeheartedly AGREE with you - it will for sure be a long road. But I, for one, am hoping the proposed standard will be approved so that we ALL have a real-life example to use so we can make good choices in the future. To me, until we have a real, live example that's been judged and awarded, we won't know "for sure" what the judges are going to view as winners.

Lisa, I believe the White feathers should be a DQ. The Standard is supposed to be something to breed for not necessarily something that is easily attained. There better not be a bunch of Marans BC show in Georgia with major faults or DQ or they will not be approved.
