Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

ON~
Yah they have the gene hiding in there somewhere, I guess I could have confused some by saying that they are solid, I will change my terminology from here in. I just say solid because they don't show copper. Sorry for the confusion.

It was sooooo cool to go out to their coop open the door to feed and water and there in the corner was an egg. My wife heard me holler in the house! LOL

Time to unboard the nestboxes.

Thanks again to all on this thread, I am learning tons!

Thanks everyone-I really enjoy my cuckoo marans. These eggs are the first ones from my pullets that were hatched this year on May 1. so I am thinking they may even get a little darker...is that right? However, after laying all those nice eggs, they have stopped laying the past few days. So I don't really know whats going on with that? Anyone have an idea?

Here's a pic of some of the eggs I intend to set. They really do look better in person. For some reason they look pretty bleache dout in the picture.
I'll be happy if I get any of them to hatch because:

The rooster is in with too many hens... BO, BJG, BCM's.

I've never seen this rooster do his thing with any of them. Not sure if he is shy or just stupid.

Some of the eggs were laid in a little pan of D.E.

Didn't keep track of how long some of them have been saved.

Some of the eggs came out of the refrigerator.

If I candle these eggs, and it appears that none of them are fertile, I will start over with a different roo.

How long do I have to have the old rooster out of there before I can be absolutely sure that the eggs will be fertilized by the new roo?

I've read ten days, but have heard numerous stories about hatches with surprise chicks from breeders who waited ten days. I now wait three weeks and have no worries about the purity of the eggs.

Thought I'd share a picture of the Cuckoo Marans egg and the other eggs we found in the nesting box! Imagine my surprise when DH brought it in today
