I always look at those coops and think they are so cute but then I look at the dimensions and think, no way. I have groups of 10-12 chickens so the coop part needs to be at lest 6'x8' and none of those kits are ever big enough. Sorry for your frustration on the parts. That happens to us a lot too. We are in Western WA in Puget Sound so we don't have the harsh winters like you do. I do have some in a horse shelter that is enclosed on 3 sides so wondering if I should modify it to contain a little more warmth but can't imagine doing the double walled insulated heated thing. We get lots of rain but glad I don't have to worry too much about freezing combs. Hope you get things done before the really bad weather hits.

Yup, they are cute, and CHEAP!! I had bought this to transfer 5 eight week old chicks to the outside, but may now put them in the inside pen in my coop that I made for my single hatch cockerel. At least I know they would be dry and safe in there! The single cockerel is just now starting to get along with the older birds, albeit, they still pick on him, but way less than they did before! He needs to grow some...let's say, big ones, before they will

But the 8 weekers need more than this coop can provide as it is. Like I said before, if nothing else, this will suffice as a seperate coop for a pair of breeders, set in a sheltered place. Guess that's what the English mean as "Garden" coop. This may work well in places like Caif. and Arz., but NOT in as in condition in any place that gets cold or wind! Lesson learned...buyer beware!!!

Illia, how dark are the Wheaten eggs from Cree?

They're as dark as my Black Coppers. They're getting a little pale as the season is wearing out. . .

The bottom row are the eggs I hatched them from

These are what they're currently laying, now at the end of their season

I've posted a tailless bird here, (infact it was that very cockerel) but it was just torn out by a goat. . . Never seen the rumplessness before that image.

My Araucana there looks like a bantam Marans because she's got the black copper coloring on her.

Ok, phew! Didn't see the Araucana part about the hen! Did see another post on here about the "rumpless" Marans, maybe I saw KinMO's pics twice??

I also have some in the 'bator that I can't remember how old they are (OR, what worries me more is that I can't remember how long it was between roos when I collected them, OOPS!)
and some that have been refrigerated
So far ALL of them have developed (we're on day 10) and I've only tossed ONE out that I thought smelled a little - it was dirty, probably got bacteria in it rather than being too old or too cold.

Good luck with your hatch!!!!!!!!!!!!
