Is it safe to assume he's destined for the olive egger pen?

I find the French site easy to read and understand. And as was discussed previously, yes, their "Brown/Red" is our "Black/Copper". But what I found really interesting was - take a look at their link to their "Black/Red" - "Golden/Salmon page. Notice the picture of the rooster with the light fluff at base of tail? Read where that color variety, while not yet an accepted color, is quite rare and has a brown wing triangle and ash-gray fluff at base of tail as "requirements". It doesn't say anything about it being Wheaten mixed. In fact, their Wheaten page says that basically the only way to tell the difference between their Whetean and their Brown/Red is the brown wing triangle (an I think it also mentioned a green sheen). It does not mention anything about white fluff/undercoat in their Wheaten but it does on their Black/Red. But I found the information on their "Black/Red" very interesting because I have some roos that look like this. I think I even posted a while back that maybe, just maybe, the white fluff wasn't from Wheaten mix.

Anyway, thought this was very interesting:

Also, take note of how light all of the roos legs are - none are "dark slate" but no need to start an argument over APA or not, just pointing out some differences.

By the way, I learn a lot from this thread and appreciate all opinions - both those die-hard APA proposed standard breeders; the French standard breeders; the don't give a darn breeders; the dark egg layer breeders; and the everything in between breeders.

I would hope that all opinions would remain welcome on this thread and that it doesn't become solely the APA standards thread and if it does, as was asked previously, can we start one for Non-APA Marans since most everyone's current birds seem to fit that description??

So my extra Wyandotte pullets may be not the best choice to cross with Marans since they lay a smaller egg and take forever to mature. What breeds work best to test Marans roosters? I assume the best match would be a hen that lays a large, light colored egg, matures early, and is easy to sex early. It would be nice if the hens and their resulting daughters were easy on the eyes as well. Any suggestions?

CONGRATULATIONS ! !

Did you give her any antibotics last night ? ? The "PRESENTS" could be a result of the antibotics .

My feed store carries Duramycin - 10 or Tetracycline hydrochloride . . . . Is this a decent antibotic for chickens ? ?
Which antibotic did you end up purchasing ? ?

I totally agree with ON. I would hate to have the valuable opions stop because some "One" took offense to it. Take what you need (or want) & let the rest go. I am learning everyday thanks to these people that take their valuable time to post their knowledge & experiences never saying there is only "One way".

Wheaten time on BYC, anyone not interested in breeding to the APA Proposed standard please do not waste your time reading these posts, because these are from the last proposed standard. I am sure and hope this will be updated before going before the APA next October.

There are only two DQ's proposed but his does not mean some will be covered in the general cutting for defects.
Spotted breast on the Male. Black or no Triangular wing bays at all.

Everyone should read the proposed standard before we get into this, from looking at the standard looks like someone was on something besides water.

I can tell you one thing about the Hackle as I took a magnifying light and used it on the picture on the French Site and their males have a black stripe just like our BC hackles on the males. This Proposed Standard is so messed up will not attempt to decifer what it says.

Anyone has any questions we can go from there. The wheaten are my favorite of all the Marans and I will always keep some of them regardless of what I do with the others. Don
