I was told this . . ..

" The males will start getting lots of smut/speckles down their backs and the girls usually don't. By about 4 weeks, the males will start getting pink combs anyway. "

Knock Kneed Hen

What ever he is mixed with, he is a handsome boy! Interesting comb going on there!

So with everyone's help . . . I can tell you that the yellow leg bands are BLUES (post 6682) and the other post would be the BLACK copper marans. . . . PINK leg bands mean I think it is a GIRL ! ! ! !

I also took some pictures of special attributes that I am looking for feedback on . . . .

Picture # 1
The chick on the right has some of the darkest leg shanks I have seen. I don't see any feathering, but what do you think about the shank coloring? ?

Picture # 2
Have you ever seen BCM chicks with brown spots that later molt out to black ? I only had one chick with this brown spot.
What are your thoughts on it . . . . . .

Picture # 3 & 4

The chick on the RIGHT does not have a spot on his head. That is the sun light being reflected.
While I was taking pictures today . . . . I noticed that there were two different colored feet on my chicks. . . .

Which is better? ?

Will the feet color change as the chick grows ? ?

Sorry, I have been away from the group for a while, I thought you were still talking about the black coppers.

The wheatens standard hasn't been tweaked by the standards committee yet.

If you want to have some input on the wheaten standard, I suggest you join the club and you will be able to comment when it's being done. The people on the standards committee are from the paid membership.

Bev

Bev,

I am a paid member. The only thing I've gotten so far is the election ballet, which I sent back in the return mail.

Hi Debbi

If you had read the messages then you would have seen the comments made as the standard was being accepted unless you joined after it was all being discussed.

Bev

Hi Math. I had a BCM chick that had a brown spot like that on its head. Turned out to be a pullet, but I had someone tell me that their experience was those BCM chicks that have brown spots are male.

Hi Bev - I too am a paid member, since August, and not only have I not received anything other than the election ballot to vote on, my posts still aren't allowed to appear until after a review and then many still don't appear. I posted a simple post last night replying to what people feed their chickens and as of mid-day today, it still wasn't seen. So, not sure what they are voting on as far as SOP - maybe they've taken a break since August. Have they voted on leg/shank color for the BCMs????

Hi Ruth

The standard for the black coppers was discussed some time ago so you would have missed that. As for your message not being accepted until today, that was because I was moderating and my Internet server has had problems. Three messages were acceoted and then I was knocked off and couldn't get on. One of the other moderators accepted your message. I am sorry about this.

Debbi, take a look at the proposed standard and tell me what you think, PM if you would like. Don

Don,

Seems to me that the coloring for the cocks are all over the place?? First it says, dark red, then the head is orange, no dark feathers, then it goes from orange to coppery?? Gray under coat, when all of them I've seen in pics look to have white fluff? I have yet to see one in person, so can't really get a good grip on what they are trying to convey. It just seems all over the map though when it comes to the color of the roos. The hen not so bad. What are your thoughts on it? PM me if more comfortable.

Hi Debbi

The original proposals were written two years ago and the revisions are being made ONCE!
