Very nice type on your black bird. Is that white coming through on the tail or is that just the pic? Pullets should start to lay at around 5-6 months sometimes longer. I think they lay sooner when they are with a roo JMO.
thanks man i really hope i dont have to cut the black one from my breeding program but i may have to

Nice black birds. I have one pure black hen from BBS mating. I am going to try to get more blacks this spring by crossing her to some pure blues. I think the blacks are awesome, you hardly ever see any. Thanks for sharing your pics.
I think hatching success is also dependant upon location and humidity.. some ppl heat their homes with wood.. this would make your humidity drop within the house so fluctuation may be more... Keep at a draft free and stable part of the house on an inside wall... I don't know what you are hatchng with but marans eggshells are tougher so there isn't as quick of an oxygen exchange...I think this is due to their heritage in the marshes of Marans France... They would have that extra coating of bloom and extra tough shell... Ya they can be a little different to hatch.. It seems the darkest ones hatch last... Let em run.. don't snatch every baby hatched out of the bator... It will drop the humidity and shrink wrap anything pipped... If you have to grab.. do it between pips or stabilize the humidity in the bathroom with the hot shower running.. If they are shipped eggs you must have your bator running and stabilized a couple days ahead and check the air cells when you get them... If they are still loose after 24 hours you may opt to use a new egg carton to hold them upright if you are hand turning..otherwise the turner is fine. If you are using an LG... and the humidity has been hard to hold.. Put a wet towel over the unit on Day 18. I have opted to throw a bantam egg in with the hatch just for a humidity boost at hatch time... works like a charm.. they get all the others excited about hatching so everyone sychronizes thier tooth egg.
question,,,, the draft color standard for wheaten marans mcc club posted the hen,s back is wheaten and wings are weat ,..... i was wondering is that 2 different colors being described ? i am a club member but thought id ask here
Please rephrase question... and edit.. I really don't understand what you are asking...
Have you tried looking at the French website... Since we are using them as a model, I surmise that you may find your answer there.
Oh and Keara... You're lucky I can't reach through this screen and snatch those babies!!!!

Shoulder of wing and back should be the same color.
A wheaten should basically have three colors - the neck, the chest/underside, and the back/shoulders. (and of course the black or blue tipping, but we're talking from a distance)
