If you would happen to get neurotic enough that you would feel the need to unplug your incubator before leaving, you could always take those eggs with you in your bra.

Yes, it is kind of a "trill". If compared to a childrens's whistle, it would be a very "soft" whistle. I love the sound of it, and was so surprised when I heard it because I had never heard it before, and neither had my hubby.
Good morning, my friends! Y'all are yacky....am JUST now caught up! Sheesh!
A couple days ago, I was lamenting that I hadn't seen a Marans egg in a month...believe this or not, that very night when I got home, I had a Marans egg from that breed pen! HA! It was only about a 4-5 on the scale, but it was pretty nonetheless and I was shocked to find it! Haven't had one since. Sigh. It's okay, though. I don't use lights, like them to have a nice break so they lay lots & lots for me in the spring!

Yes, that's it! Pip at 4.5 months old, still does it from time to time. It was very comical when I first started taking the chicklets outside, Pip would use that soft trill as a warning call. When he did it, they all froze in place. They wouldn't move a feather for the longest time, just stood perfectly still! It was hilarious!
When the frigid temps hit here, my two girls went on strike. It's supposed to get into the upper 20s today (Oooooo!), so I expect an egg. Poor Pretty is very vocal just before she goes in to lay, and yesterday she was tearing around the coop squawking her fool head off, but wouldn't lay. Bet I'll have a big one today!
I can't say as I'd wanna hang my butt out in this weather, either! We hit single digits last night, with wind chills in the minus. WHY on earth do I live in Michigan?
That would be a sight...............but what happens if I have 3 incubators going at the same time that are chalk full of eggs? Ohhhhhh.......I could just see it now!
DH would never accompany me around town if that happened.
