Bev~
I had a hen that gave me an egg like almost daily, I tried and tried to hatch many of her eggs and I think (can't remember exactly) but 5 hatched, but of course this was on my last attempt with her eggs. They were very hard to hatch, I wonder if it had something to do with the extra thick coating. Out of her offspring.... one is laying an egg sorta similar to hers, but unlike her mother she does not lay one almost daily, I usually only get 1 from her a week that is that color and the rest of her eggs are normal. Her siblings lay a normal egg.

Ruth and Wynette: I love those olive and pink eggs!
My broody just hatched my first olive egger the other day. It wasn't hers, I just put the egg under her. It was from a blue egg (Ameraucauna mom and blk copper dad. The baby looks like a black ameraucana with feathered legs. Here she/he is:

Here are some pics of my 1st broody black copper hen and her chicks. She only hatched out 4 eggs but I am sooo proud of her

There is 2 blue coppers, 1 blk copper, and the 1 olive egger.

Here she is teaching them how to scratch and kick the food all over the place. Every now and again one chick would get behind her and she would scratch and send it flying lol. They learn real quick to stay in front of her so she can't kick them.

Here is one of her and three of the chicks. (my camera is really bad..sorry about the quality)

Thank you we have had so much chicken, broody, and baby drama around here lately that I am just finally getting the pics posted. My other blk copper broody has eggs pipping today.

A week ago dh's OEGB hen got out and ran into the woods and didn't come back.. Turns out she has a nest back there with 8 eggs in it!!! So now we have to slap together another cage to keep her in, so nothing will eat her. Geez her eggs and nest are right out in the open on the ground. I'm amazed nothing got them yet.

Then last week we had a good storm here and it blew some tree limbs down. I found a baby squirrel on the ground. I left it there till nightfall hoping the momma would come get it but then it was getting dark and it was still there and the nieghbors old black tom cat came and tried to get it. So I took the baby and put it in with this momma cat and her kittens that someone dropped off when it was preggo a month ago (more drama). Well I guess things happen for a reason because that momma cat took in that squirrel and has been nursing it and cleaning it and it is doing really good. She moved her kittens into the closet the other day and she took that little squirrel first over her own kittens lol.

That is one GOOD mamma cat!!!!!! It's nice to hear about happy things, the thought of that mamma cat with her babies and that little squirrel put a big ol' smile on my face. Thanks for sharing that. BTW: pass some of that broodiness stuff my girls' way would ya!!!!!

A little OT but here is the pic of that baby squirrel with the kittens I talked about in my previous post. It is soooo cute!!! They have been together for a week and doing well. Once it gets weaned I am gonna take it to a wildlife rehabber so they can reintroduce it into the wild. We are not handling it so it won't get to used to humans. The momma cat is taking real good care of it. I just couldn't leave it out there to die...
